Stunning view, privacy and comfort; three words to describe a perfect holiday! The house sits 500 feet above the ocean on top of a mountain over looking the ocean in all directions. Enjoy the most amazing sunsets every night. The home has an infinity pool that offers you the most amazing views of the coastline. From the master-bedroom your steps walk right into the pool. The house is a mix of Mexican and Balinesian styled house, all open air. The pristine jungle is all around you and you will find the most beautiful and amazing animals such as birds, butterflies, Howler Monkey's and so much more. The house is very private, no one will bother you unless you need the services of our concierge, gardener and maid for any reason. They are at your disposal. This home is extremely comfortable for 6 people but can accommodate more if you wish. The house is about 5 minutes from town and 5 minutes to the beach.

Amenities: The home is well equipped with a full kitchen, 2 full bathrooms. Both showers have amazing ocean views, the master bedrooms shower is open to the sky. The pool is an infinity which allows for drastic views of the coastline and ocean, you can honestly see for miles and miles without anything blocking your view. The master bedroom has a king size bed and the 2 other guest rooms have queen size beds. We are also equipped if you want to bring a small child. We have a pack and play, different chairs and toys to accommodate your baby. There is a TV with Satellite so you can enjoy movies in English, also there is a stereo system in the house and has speakers positioned all over the house and patio areas. So bring you iPod and plug in your favorite tunes. If you don't feel like cooking, then hire our chef. You can have him cook for the whole day or just for dinners, whatever you like. Let him do the work and you enjoy the pool and environment, just relax!

There are grocery stores in town about 5 minutes away where you can get all the supplies you would need to cook for yourselves. Also, there is a liquor store, surf shops, Internet cafes, bars, restaurants from 5 star to typical Costa Rican food.

Activities: If you are a surfer you will enjoy the fact that you can see 7 surf breaks from the pool and porch. So wake up early look out and pick your spot. There are point breaks, lefts and rights, beach breaks, reef breaks, you name it, it's all there. Kite boarding, Surfing, scuba diving, speed boat rentals, horse back rides on the beach at sunset or during the day, bird watching, canopy tours, kayaking, yoga, messages, sport fishing, snorkeling trips to Turtle Island, but most importantly the greatest activity when you are in a paradise like this is simply relaxing and enjoying the nature around you poolside. The home is meant for you and your guest to have the perfect holiday. Pura Vida!!!

Cool House and pool

" The house was just like the pictures with a few pleasant surprises (the outside/inside showers were great, the master bedroom location adjacent to and overlooking the pool and coastline is as romantic and unique as anywhere in the world and all the candles-we used them one night-created an atmosphere that was almost spiritual). We could not of been more pleased with the infinity pool-spent many hours enjoying it and the view and the covered area where we played cards, read and enjoyed a few cocktails. We cooked out on the grill (got fresh fish from Mal Pais) and used the kitchen, both were well stocked and enjoyable to use. We were always torn between going surfing (we took lessons the first day and surfed almost every day), exploring, snorkeling, etc. and enjoying the house.

Carlos did a great job of monitoring the pool, changing the sheets and washing our clothes. They also had a puppy who became our house pet. Everyone loved him.

I noticed on your website you have houses in other locations. You delivered exactly, if not more, than what you promised and I definitely will keep you in mind for the future. Whether we will go back to Mal Pais is questionable because of the five hour drive from the airport. We enjoyed it as an adventure this time, but not sure if a second time would just end up as a very bumpy ride. However, my son kept talking about wanting to go back, so you never know.

Please understand that these are all minor comments and did not affect our opinion of the home and your assurances.

Again, thanks for the great vacation. It was one of our best, ever.

"Our stay at the Hilltop House was amazing. Everything about the house was perfect! Jeremy and his crew were extremely helpful and they gave us all so much privacy. We were three couples and each had a wonderful time. The view of the house is extremely special and the house makes for a perfect holiday. We can’t wait to go back again!”

You won't want to leave this idyllic setting

Hilltop House is an outstanding choice for vacationers who really want to get away from it all. The open-air home, pool, and expansive veranda are situated in a remote tropical setting that boasts a panorama of breathtaking views. After each day’s main activity, my family and I enjoyed returning to the house to clean up and grab an afternoon swim (or snooze in the hammock). We’d then head back down the semi-private road for dinner at one of several nearby restaurants that offered wonderful food.
The home has a pleasing open floor plan with curvy stucco walls painted in a mix of bold and muted colors. From the outdoor shower off the master bedroom one can choose to watch either the ocean or the jungle. Our family of four—including two teenagers—found that the bedrooms afforded each of us plenty of privacy.
The kitchen is quite basic, but we did not eat at the house much. (The Soda Piedres del Mar is a great choice for breakfast or brunch.) Had we wanted to cook or dine in, I’m confident the nearby groundskeeper and housekeeper would have happily assisted. They were warm and responsive to all our requests. They even interrupted their own errands on the main road one night to help us when we had trouble with a rented ATV. And of course, we greatly appreciated the every-other-day laundry and linen service.
As another guest previously noted, it’s not possible to secure the house completely. But in our view this was part of the place’s unique appeal. Because most of the ocean-facing walls are enclosed in stylish wrought iron gates instead of traditional glass-paned windows, we enjoyed a continuous cooling breeze. Besides, being so far removed from the main road, the house is an unlikely target for crime. Anyone approaching the property has to pass by the home of the attentive groundskeepers. And there’s a gate to the private portion of the road.
The owners could improve the home’s nighttime lighting situation. Considering that it’s in a region that’s had electricity for less than 30 years, however, we decided to read less and listen more—to monkeys, and waves, and wild, wild, storms. That experience alone made this an amazing vacation home.
The only real downside of Hilltop House is that the drive up and down can be hair-raising. It turned out to be more navigable than we had initially feared. Still, like a lot of the roads in Costa Rica, it’s not for the faint of heart.

A million dollar view, that's for sure!

Hello There!

The vacation was great! We will never forget the view! A million dollar view, that's for sure! The home was stylishly decorated. The layout of the home was perfect for guests with children. The notebook with all the contacts in the area was very helpful. The staff was friendly. The area was centrally located. We will definitely hit you up in the rainy season, whenever we are out that way (end of April is too hot for us).

We had a great time! We will certainly recommend the house to anyone heading that way!

Hill Top House - Unbelievable Sunsets

"For a place to be relaxing, inspiring, and invigorating all in the same trip it has to be pretty special. For a start there is no venue I have ever stayed that has a view like this. The sunsets are the most amazing I have seen anywhere, and during the day you are literally at eye level with the birds. The house layout is perfect for the setting .. while away the midday heat in the pool, or drift off in siesta on one of the hammocks, or on the deck while the sounds of the breaking surf waft up the hill. An outdoor dining area makes a perfect setting for enjoying the bounty from a fishing trip .. (or arrange a chef to do it for you!)... and to rise in the morning with the birds/monkeys and look out over the Pacific is awe-inspiring. And Mal Pais itself - a perfect destination that by virtue of its isolation retains the pura vida that we all go to Costa Rica for. Amazing surf, food, beaches and people .. relaxed and uncrowded. This house and this town will make you want to come back .. I have, 6 times!
