Family Reunion

Review Submitted: September 11, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We enjoyed our trip to Prospect Harbor very much. We had 16 people in our family and the house provided plenty of room. We didn't feel crowded at all. The house is in very good condition. Some mattresses were a little hard, but we didn't expect a five star hotel! Winter Harbor had a lot more to offer than we expected. Chase's Restaurant was great food at great prices. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and were never disappointed. Just be patient, it is a small diner and always busy! The view from the house was exceptional. Having our own lighthouse to view was amazing! Having free long distance was a plus, since we could use our cell phones in Bar Harbor. It helped us keep in touch as everyone traveled. Internet was handy, didn't use too much, way too busy! The game room had a few arcade games that didn't work, kids would have enjoyed that more if they had. The basement gameroom is very musty. That was the only thing we didn't enjoy. One bathroom was not in working order, but it was in the basement so it wasn't a problem. The rooms are very large and had everything we could need, including a crib. We left a baby gate there for the stairs, it helped us feel safer with a two year old. The stairs are steep, just plan before you come down for the day! As I said before, the view made it all worth while. We LOVED the area and didn't even mind the drive to Bar Harbor. I would definitely recommend this house. It was very much as described.
Owner's Response: A major summer storm blew through our area in August 2008 causing widespread power outages & damage. Unfortunately, our sump pump system was inoperable due to not having electricity. After the storm, about an inch of water had soaked the basement throw rugs. Our cleaning crew did a great job of removing & throwing away the throw rugs, mopping up the ceramic tile floors & airing out the basement. With less than 24 hours between the storm & our incoming guests, there wasn't enough time to completely dry out the basement. We now have a new sump pump system & dehumidifier in the basement. The basement has been freshly painted along with the rest of the interior of the house. The bathroom in the basement has also been fixed. The vintage pinball machines in the basement will be sold & removed this Fall and are no longer advertised as an amenity. We have purchased a Nintendo Wii game system with (4) controllers & family friendly games.
