Environment:
A walk along the coast is highly recommended as the panoramic views from the cliffs are spectacular and the rock formations would be of great interest to the natural historian.
Rejuvenate yourself with sun and sea:
The coast, which extends north and east of the Cabo de Sao Vicente has more than 20 beaches, some are small intimate rock bays while others are long expanses of sand so everybody can find their own ideal ambience. The sun shines nearly the whole year round which gives the Algarve its characteristic light. Spring begins in January when the almond blossom is on the trees, it veils the whole area in a beautiful rose white sheen, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
Regional:
The local restaurants serve typical Portuguese food, which is rich and tasty. Fish is the predominate dish, ranging from simple barbequed sardines to lobsters and swordfish in extravagant sauces. As a wine-growing region, the local wines are worth drinking, notably the dry white wine as it is a regional product. The sweets and desserts made from local almonds and figs are simply delicious.
Golf:
According to the outstanding climate and low rainfall golf can be comfortably played all year round. Between the beach Burgau and Alvor there are 4 golf courses. The Parque da Floresta is a course that has been built in the hills behind Burgau; this affords you the benefit of beautiful views and challenging golf. Palmares is close to the historical Port of Lagos, this is a flat course built partially on the beach. Penina is the championship course that hosts the Portuguese Open, this course is in a tree studded country park. Auto Golf extends over two valleys; this course is picturesque and challenging. The Algarve is a paradise for all golfers
