Excurion destinations: Besides Roquetas the natural reserve area begins. Here you can watch birds including flamingos. Almeria with 2-storey market hall, historical buildings and sights (Alcazaba), churches, shopping, culture, Mediterranean sea harbour, Nijar with attractive local pottery, knotted products, cloth or the Natural Park Cabo de Gata, San José with wonderful rocks and beaches, wild west village – set for different movies by Sergio Leone, marble bridge, Granada with Alhambra, ham productions in the mountains, Sierra Nevada with alpine ski resorts, mountain villages and lakes, Cuevas del Almanzora and caves. Ferries conduct daily between Almeria and Morocco, open sea fishing and boat trips with glass bottom boats, excursions to Malaga and so on and so on. Dining is very various. Especially in the typical Spanish taverns the fresh fish tastes unforgettably good. The Tapas-Bars are also worth a visit.
Roquetas de Mar and sport:
In and around roquetas there is a wide offer of different sports e. g. swimming in the brand new indoor pool, windsurfing, diving, open sea fishing, waterski, jet ski, miniature golf, tennis, hiking at the beach, (Nordic) Walking, horseback riding, cycling, mountainbiking. By the way: Almeria hosted Mediterranean Sea Competitions in July 2005. Children and water fools can have fun in the water park approx. 4 km away.

Ski:
The nearest skiing area is the Sierra Nevada, which has the town of Granada to its foot. Driving time by car are approx. 2.2 hours. The mountain peak of this large and varied skiing area goes up to 3,500 meters above sea level. The Sierra Nevada is a modern winter sport area popular for world cup skiing and other championships and also a grant for snow.
Golf:
3 golf courts are located in the area (5 to 25 minutes). Inexpensive and with different topographies and difficulty. Also for demanding payers a challenge.
