There is no shortage of activities available on Mount Desert Island. 120 miles of impeccably maintained carriage trails provide ideal conditions for biking, hiking, or cross-country skiing. The many ponds and lakes and quick access to the ocean allow for swimming, sailing, motor boating, beachcombing, and other activities. On rainy days, visit a local historical library, museum, or gallery.
In the winter, go ice-fishing, head north for the dog sled races for a day, or go snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or sledding! If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place to be! The scenic views are breathtaking any time of the year. Play golf, take a garden tour, watch a local performance, and have a great meal! Ledges Cottage is ideally located on a quiet circle about 5 miles from the center of Southwest Harbor. It is conveniently located 1 mile or less from the nearest convenience store, post office, town office, and the working docks. In addition, the Bar Harbor Airport just 15 miles away makes your flight into town a breeze. (Bangor Airport is located approx. 50 miles away).
Ski:
For those interested in cross country skiing, there are plenty of well-groomed carriage trails available on Mount Desert Island. During the winter when the Park Loop road is closed, many skiers also take advantage of the opportunity to ski there as well, and the views are spectacular!
