Grand stay at a grand place!

Step back in time to when places like this were called "cottages". Journey's End offers a combination of old time charm, modern convenience and a truly beautiful and private spot on one of Maine's best lakes. The stone fireplace and panelled library were beautiful signs of the craftsmanship of a bygone era. There's also plenty of space to swallow your whole extended family. Book now!

great vacation

my family stayed here last august and we had the best time. it is so private and relaxing. at night we would sit around the firepit and listen to all the wonderful sounds of nature. while your sitting there yell across the water and your going to hear the echos at least four times we counted maybe more. the master bedroom is great some of the bedrooms could use new mattresses, but all in all great big old charmer. i would stay there again and again. a lot of fun. one problem if your not in shape beware of the hill you have to go up and down to get to the water.youll be in shape when you leave thats for sure. thank you for sharing your home with us.

Home away from home

Journey's End is the kind of place that you wish you owned so you could come whenever you want. It has a wonderful open floor plan, new kitchen with all the mod cons, three modern bathrooms and a lovely new master bedroom addition with views of the lake through the pines. The beautiful panelled sun room has cable TV for rainy days and the wrap around screened porch is a perfect spot to listen to the loons on the lake at night or to play a nice game of cards without being eaten by bugs.

I didn't notice any trash on the extensive grounds as mentioned in one of the reviews. The lawns have always been well maintained in the two summers we have stayed there.

The lake is crystal clear and the kyaks and the row boat with quiet electric motor make our vacation special. The owner always comes to greet us on the day we arrive and is very helpful.

I highly recommend Journey's End for someone wanting peace and quiet in lovely surroundings yet near enough to town (Winthrop, Hallowell, Augusta) to find good restaurants and grocery stores.

Plenty of room for large families

Maine0522 Lansdale, PA
Review Submitted: August 22, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
The house itself was very large with a great wide open floor plan - plenty of room for everyone. Brand new kitchen. The lake is beautiful and clean and the kids loved the swim dock. Fishing was pretty decent also. The house is old and not very well maintained. I hate to say it but, verging on dirty. There is obviously no maid service as it is the renters responsibility to clean everything! I hope you have decent people in before your stay... The property could be beautiful if it was maintained. Walks to "explore" proved upsetting as there was trash ramdomly throughout the land. Not great for young kids as they could get hurt (glass bottles, rotting old tin cans, pieces of furniture). The furniture in the house was old and worn - especially the bedrooms upstairs. Overall, I would only suggest this property for couples with older children. Very quiet and peaceful property and very close to everything you would need in town.
Owner's Response: Regarding the cleaning of the house, we ask each renter to clean before they leave, and we employ a cleaning team who comes to the house between every rental and ensures that the house has been cleaned and does additional cleaning if necessary. This has worked well for the past 20 years we have rented Journeys End, but we are evaluating other options for renters who wish to do no cleaning before they leave.

Regarding the "trash" they found on the property - we've not observed this, but we have 80 acres of land. Unfortunately, this renter did not reply to our request asking for more information. We'll spend some time this spring, when the foliage is down, to walk the property and clean up any debris we may find.

We want every renter to enjoy their time at Journey's End. Unfortunately, the first time we heard the criticisms listed here, was on the web. We only wished we could have made things right for this renter at the time of their rental.

A very nice time

Review Submitted: July 6, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
A nice property that could be great with some love. The owners are very nice and quite helpful. We really had a great time here. There were ten of us there and there was plenty of room. It is a definite camp though. The only things we felt it should have had that it didn't were a clothes line to hang our wet clothes, a hammock and a horseshoe pit. A washer dryer would have been nice too. The Kyaks, canoe and row boat that the owners provided was a great blessing and really made the vacation special. The owner was also kind enough to lend us fishing gear and that was alot of fun as well. I would definitley go again.
