History of our district Gehlsdorf:
You like to really relax, Gehlsdorf is the right place: it is a small paradise. Gehlsdorf lies beyond the Warnow and the city. The first documentary mention of this town was as “Michaelstorpp” in 1285. The name changed in the course of centuries until 1896 where the name “Gehlsdorf” turns up in the “Toitenwinkler Kirchendorf” for the first time. Gehlsdorf grew up from a small village to a town. The number of inhabitants increased from 400 to 3300. It always was a place of residence, except in the DDR. Now, after the change of power, it changed again. Now, Gehlsdorf is a high-class district. From Gehlsdorf you can drive by bus and tram or by ferry to Rostock-City. Our promenade is very beautiful – relaxation pure!
