Situated just off the road up a steep rugged driveway, the villa adjoins the owners home and is approximately 12Km from Puerto Naos. The property is clean and well maintained. The large open kitchen-diner has a fridge, small freezer, microwave and hob, the pine table with benches and chairs will seat six cosily.
All other rooms open into the central kitchen-diner. Two bedrooms, each with twin beds and wardrobes, a large lounge with sofabed, TV and HiFi. The bathroom has a spacious hot shower. In the small, very private courtyard a bar-b-que is built into the wall, here we sat each afternoon and delighted in the antics of the canarian lizards that lived in the walls and garden. On the roof of the villa is a sun terrace but we are fair skinned and would have fried in the hot sun. Across the courtyard narrow steep winding steps take you up to the pool terrace where you have lovely views of the mountain behind the property and you can lie and watch kestrels hunt. The pool is immaculately maintained and quite deep, separate towels are provided for pool use.
From villa Gabriella's central position you can explore the whole island, a lovely day out to the south walking around the volcanoes San Antonio and Teneguia, the lighthouse, salt works and sea reserve. The central part of the island with the famous Caldera de Taburiente will take several days walking, sightseeing and exploring, the views are breathtaking and the scents in the forests just too lovely.
Driving to the north of the island to visit Garafia and the world famous observatory involves steep winding roads with wonderful vistas on every bend, it is worth the effort but the roads require great concentration.
Emerging from the tunnels on the east side of the island the difference in weather is immediately apparent, clouds arrested by the mountains hardly feature on the sunny west side, however the east side of the island is under cloud almost every afternoon.
But not to be missed are the walks in Los Tilos through the cannal tunnels and the natural swimming pools formed in the rocks at Charco Azul, the cobbled streets of Santa Cruz with its many squares and museums and the prehistoric caves at Belmarco. La Palma is a wonderful holiday for nature lovers and walkers of all levels, but because of the steep hills and cobbled streets, very restrictive for people with walking difficulties. Renting a car in this rural location is essential.
