El Molino and surrounding:
A quiet country lane winds out from Orgiva through fertile arable land, olive and orange groves, passing old stone houses grown over with bougainvillea and hibiscus, to the old hamlet known as Los Agustines. Here you can park your car and reach, within two minutes on a path, the former olive mill El Molino, at the edge of a eucalyptus grove. Entering the estate one is immediately enchanted by the historical atmosphere and architecture of the artistically restored building. For centuries the olives of the whole area have been milled here. A fantastic view over the wide valley of the Rio Guadalfeo to the mountains of the coastal range opens up. One can survey the fertile river plains, irrigated by the melting waters of the high mountains, with a patchwork of fields which are still cultivated by hand and by mule – an unforgettable panorama.
Las Alpujarras:
Between the snow capped peaks of the Sierre Nevada and the beaches of the Costa del Sol lies a stretch of country known as the Alpujarras, famous for the beauty of its scenery. Due to its mild climate and abundant water resources one finds blooming vegetation you would not expect it in southern Andalusia: from apples, cherries and muleberries to avocados, oranges, bananas, almonds, grapes and olives all kinds of produce are available. In addition an enormous variety of wild herbs and exotic plants thrive there. Just as manifold are the regional fauna: ibex, chamois, wild boar and eagle find their homes in the wide mountain regions and remote river plains. But also from the cultural aspect the Alpujarras have a lot to offer: For centuries the land was cultivated by the Moors, whose influence is still prevalent today in the architecture, arts and crafts and music of the region.
Leisure activities:
Located at the edge of the nature reserve of the Sierra Nevada, El Molino offers the ideal starting-point for many leisure activities: walking-tours directly from your door on old mule paths to the “white villages” (among the most highly situated villages in Spain), mountaineering, climbing, horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding / Costa Tropical: swimming, water sports / Granada: Alhambra, cultural events / Excursions: the stalactite cave in Nerja, the water park in Almunecar, the cave dwellings in Guadix and much more.
