On the German Gemstone Route various visitor-mines, quarries and digging lugs are waiting to be discovered. For instance, the copper mine close to Fischbach and Idar Oberstein and the gemstone mines of Steinkaulenberg. In Idar Oberstein you can visit the German Gemstone Museum, which exhibits minerals and gemstones from all over the world and the unique Chapel in the Rocks (Felsenkirche) which is constructed in the rock. At the historical “Weiherschleife” Cutting Mill and the museum of local history you may explore the beginnings of the gemstone industry.
You can reach the historical town of Herrstein, the Wildenburg deer enclosure / game reserve and the gemstone garden in Kempfeld in about 20 min. drive. You may / can spend a very special day in the slate mines of Herrenberg (fossils), Altburg, Schmidburg (Bundenbach) and Hahnenbachtal. The Karl May festival, which takes place in June and July in Mörschied is an attraction for the young and the young at heart.

Medieval castles and ruins are waiting to be conquered, lose yourself in reveries of the past times. The “Sironaweg” unites past and present in a, at every time of the year, diverse landscape. The German Gemstone Route and the Slate and Castle Route lead past very interesting sights. There is a great variety of gemstone cutting mills and jewellery shops. Discover the manufacturing / working process from raw gem to finished piece of jewellery. But you may as well cut and form pieces yourself. Discover the world of gemstones, visit the gemstone mines of “Steinkaulenberg” and the German Gemstone Museum, the museum of local history and the Chapel in the Rocks. Combine culture with leisure fun. The lake of Bostal, the public open air bath / lido in Birkenfeld, and the subtropical water park “Die Pyramide” in Oberhambach promise / will ensure a great diversity to your holiday plan. The bare foot path and the open air museum in Sobernheim are worth a daytrip.
Sport opportunities:
You will find diverse opportunities for extended hikes in the Hochwald in the immediate vicinity of the residence. 4 km away, you will find the subtropical water park “ Pyramide” in the holiday park of Hambachtal. The lake of Bostal, which is 14 km away, invites you to swim and surf. Cyclists and hiker are attracted Nahe cyclists and hiker path, which leads from the source to the mouth along the Nahe river. In Rinzenberg you’ve got also the possibility to ride horses. Tennis lovers have the possibility to play tennis at the TC Hambachtal, which is 3 km away.
Ski:
You can reach the winter sport centre Erbeskopf in 10 min. (8 km) where 2 downhill ski runs, 1 practice ski run, 3 ski lifts, a toboggan-run and a cross-country ski-run exist.
Golf:
The 9-hole golf curse club “Edelstein Hunsrück” is situated on the edge of the forest of Kirschweiler and 20 km away. You are welcome to participate in numerous activities. Beginners may practice at the 3-hole curse. There is a second golf club close to Hahn airport.
