Palma:
Palma is a metropolis with charisma, history and tradition. Palma offers uncountable shopping facilities, restaurants, cafés and bars, a laid-back atmosphere and beautiful weather most of the time. Palma is constantly living, growing and changing. At the moment the quarter of Santa Catalina, in proximate neighbourhood, is a good advice. Palma’s oldest market hall (available by bus n° 3) offers all fresh ingredients during the day, that are cooked in the evening. Between the Avinguda Argentina and Carrer Espartere there are many small, well known restaurants and bars. The art scene is booming also: a new museum “Es Baluard” offers surprising views to the visitor. It was built in a former bastion, offers modern and contemporary art and a pictorial view of Palma and the homonymous restaurant (phone: 971719609), a very good, classic cuisine.
Another good restaurant with nice view and easily available by foot, is he „Real Club Nautico“ in the marina (phohe: 971 71 79 03) at the Passeig Maritim. The hip night clubs “Pascha” and “Titos” also reside there. Well worth-seeing is the Miro Museum (Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró) in the area with gardens, buildings and a heritage of 6000 paintings and drawings. The park Bellver and the Castell de Bellver are all the way down to the right.
In case it should rain one can spend the day on the roofed-over shopping mile Porto Pi. Here one can find everything: clothing, shoes and jewellery, plus a huge supermarket where you can buy literally everything. Unique is the Zara Home with decorations and furniture, recommended is the cheese and wine retailer (next to the supermarket’s entry). Nest door is a modern, new fitness centre where you can get day and week tickets. In the mole, across from Porto Pi, lies the small natural stone beach (also nude bathing), mostly less crowded, larger beaches are Platja de Palma und the beautiful Illettes (terminal of bus n°3). In the grocery section of the large Corte Ingles (there are 2) you can find all foreign groceries, good fish and meat, but also many Spanish and American fashion designers, very pretty bags and leathers
