The city Benissa with its shopping and service options is only 3 km away. It is located 275 m above sea level and has excellent climatic conditions. Its existence comes back to an Arabian origin as the legions of Jaime I. conquered Benissa in 1248. Century-old walls, stone plastered alleys and antique mansions bring visitors back into a different time. The old city is still completely preserved. Particularly worth seeing is the Franziskaner monastery from the 17th century, the hospital from the 18th century - where the town hall currently is, the church from the 20th century - which is famous because of its size as the "cathedral" in all of Marina Alta. On the 4th Sunday in April, a festival is celebrated in honour of the eponym and the patron saint "Purissima Xiqueta". Processions from the Moros y Cristianos occur during the last week of June and in August, the old city turns into a large art gallery.
