Glengarriff:
The sky is little bit wider; the grass is a little bit greener, and the past a little bit livelier as elsewhere. Ireland fascinates every day again with mysterious monuments, ancient myths and with a delightful nature. Glengarriff is one of southwest of Irelands most beautiful and warm places. Because of its sheltered situation and the warming oceanic influence of the Gulf Stream the climate is in some respect almost subtropical, making it an ideal holiday spot at any time of the year. The Blue Pool Amenity area located near the village is approached from the Pier or the Blue Pool, and several places in between. You can enjoy the woodland and fields as well as the maze of walks that cross each other for the entire area. Glengarriff is a terrific home base for day trips e.g. the ‘Ring of Beara’ along the Beara peninsula, Dursey Island, ‘Ring of Kerry’ to Kenmare and Killarney.
Garnish Island (Ilnacullin):
Another must is to visit Garnish Island (Ilnacullin), a small Island of 15 hectares (37 acres) located in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff, well known to horticulturists and lovers of trees and shrubs all around the world as an island garden of rare beauty. The island is open to visitors each day from 1st March to 31st October. During the winter months, from November to February, it is closed to visitors except by special arrangement. Ilnacullin is reached from Glengarriff by privately operated boats. A charge for admission to Ilnacullin is made by the Office of Public Works on arrival at the island. This charge is quite separate from the fares collected by boat owners.
Horse riding in Bantry:
The equestrian centre in the southwest of Ireland owned by famous Charlotte and Heinz Wehrli offers individual programs, individual tuition and individual learning on well-trained and schooled horses in excellent facilities: indoor and outdoor arenas, or cross country courses with top class teachers. You can go out for 1, 2, or 3 hours or have a lesson. Also beautiful guided day trips with spectacular views and picnics (min. 4 riders) are available.
