Summary of the house, 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6
Rent a true island home in an unspoiled paradise. We wanted to make our home (and attached writer's cottage) an exotic getaway, so we've furnished it with oriental rugs, imported wicker and rattan furniture, dark hardwoods and artwork purchased on our trips around the globe. Sleep under the romantic mosquito net canopy in the Africa bedroom or sink into a deep Hatteras chair enjoying a cocktail. You'll be surrounded by other homes, not condos or hotels on lovely Anna Maria Island, a favourite Florida getaway of private homes, white sandy beaches, sea turtles and slow island life. It is a great area for golfing, diving, fishing and other sports. The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are just a short walk (200 yards/meters) to the west. Major attractions, including Disney World and Orlando theme parks, are within 2 hours drive. There's a stop for the free island trolley about 100 steps from the door. You can take a 'virtual tour' of the main house and cottage on our web site.

Anna Maria Island is located off the central West Coast of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It lies about 65 km south of Tampa/St. Petersburg and about 30 km north of Sarasota. It is about 175 km to Orlando theme parks. It's about 400 km to Miami, on the other side of the state. The island itself is about seven miles long, flanked by white Gulf beaches on one side, and inter coastal waterway the next. The house is in Holmes Beach, one of the three small towns on the island. The island itself is known as a haven for sea turtles and the northern portion of the island is rather undeveloped. There are several small restaurants, bars and cafes on the island, and rental agencies for bikes, children's needs and even kayaks. The closest airport is Sarasota-Bradenton Airport, but Tampa International Airport is usually the best value option for international flights. Some people opt to fly into Orlando, but be reminded it is about a two hour drive.
Local activities cycling, diving, fishing, golf, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis, water skiing, wind-surfing
