Our 4 bedroom ground floor apartment is located at the residential west end of Alhaurin el Grande,a bustling Andalucian town of 20,000 'Alhaurinos'.The town is only 25 minutes by car from both Malaga airport and the Costa del sol coastline.Just inland of the town is the Sierra de Nieves a national park,very popular for walking,hiking and camping.The town has upwards of 40 restaurants,many cooking local produce. The town boasts many sports facilities including a year round covered swimming pool, tennis courts, football pitches and roller blading.. The town is only 10 Km away from the pretty town of Mijas which also has one of the nicest outdoor swimming pools and barbecue restaurants in the area.The apartment has 2 terraces, one covered by vines in the summer months and one above in the sun. Both have stunning views over an orange grove to the sierra beyond. In the summer months the lower terrace is filled with the scent of two jasmine plants.The local town'feria'is at the end of May

  • Collection and return service to Malaga Airport; If you are tired after your flight, we can arrange for somebody to meet you at the airport and drive you straight to the apartment door. The journey only takes 25 minutes and costs only 25 Euros.

Notes: Two terraces, one of which is shaded by vines, the other is exposed to the sun. Both have beautiful views overlooking an Orange Grove. A small barbecue grill is provided. The apartment is able to receive both the 'Amena' and 'Orange' and 'Movistar' mobile telephone signals amongst others.

Location: Alhaurin el Grande is 25 minutes drive from Malaga airport near the Sierra de Nieves National Park. The ground floor apartment is situated in a residential area of the town. At our end of town we have a village within a town right on our doorstep.There are a small selection of shops , two mini markets a fish shop, a bakery, a video library and a good restaurant with tapas bar and formal restaurant within two minutes walk. The busy area of town which has a large variety of shops, tapas bars and restaurants is approx 900metres from the apartment. Beyond that is the new covered municipal swimming pool and tennis courts. There are several taxi companies in the town and parking is always available at, or very close to the apartment.

Local Attractions: The coast is roughly a 25 minute drive from the apartment. The pretty tourist village of Mijas is 10 km away and also contains a superb public outdoor pool. The cultural cities of Ronda, Granada and Antequera are within easy reach by car. There are golf courses (Lauro Golf and Alhaurin Golf) at either end of the town. Mijas Golf is 20 minutes away by car. The area is very popular with walkers as there are a number of National Parks within a short drive. The lakes at Ardales Park are well worth a visit as is the Chorro Gorge and the Limestone ridge at Torcal. In keeping with all Andalusian towns there are many festivals and fiestas (highlights being the annual town festival 'feria' at the end of May and the Easter week 'Semana Santa'). There are jazz and flamenco festivals on during the month of June.The town boasts over 20 restaurants many of them serving fresh fish and shellfish from nearby Malaga (our personal favourite is restaurant Sardina, a fifteen minute walk from the flat.)

Facilities: We can now offer a collection service from and to Malaga airport for a maximum of 3 people with luggage.The charge for this service is only 25 Euros (single).The apartment has two terraces overlooking an orange grove. The lower one has vines over the canopy above,a lemon tree, bouganvilia and two wonderful scented jasmine plants. We have a barbecue unit and JVC stereo system. The living room has a 21' television with combined DVD and VCR below.We have an automatic washing machine and combined microwave/ grill. At the end of our street is a shop which, at the weekend ,sells spit roasted herb filled chickens.The area enjoys a fantastic 320 days of sunshine a year but in the unlikely event of colder weather, we have just introduced a Hi-fi lounge off the lower terrace with a real wood fire. This is a lovely room to relax in with a glass of Rioja!

Spacious, clean and comfortable flat with all amenities. Lovely terraces to sunbath and sip your evening G&Ts- even the fresh lemons are on hand!
Out of 30days we had 22 of sunshine - can't be bad for March . Excellent location to experience REAL Spain.Local transport is very reliable,punctual and cheap giving access to surrounding towns and villages.While car hire gives excellent easy access to major roads allowing travel further afield to Granada and Gibralter Local bars and restaurants are extremely friendly with great food and atmosphere. Sorry to leave before the Santa Semana celebrations but always leave a reason to return !

Excellent relaxing holiday.

This flat is a very clean and comfortable flat with excellent views to the rear over the orange groves to the mountains beyond, it is within easy reach of the town with very good resturants and a nice shopping centre, and on most Thusday mornings there is a very good market, just off the town centre well worth a visit. We did enjoy our holiday the weather could not have been better sunshine for a whole week and in November too great, we will certainly be going back again next year.

Alhaurin el Grande holiday

Our party of four, all "Golden Oldies", spent a fantastic two weeks here in September 2008. The apartment is immaculate and well maintained, with all the facilities required for a good holiday and beautiful views over the orange groves to the mountains from the two terraces. The locals are friendly and the weather was excellent with only two days' rain out of the fourteen. Although we didn't hire a car we had no problem getting a taxi into the centre of town, and a leisurely walk to Church Square with a stop for coffee or a cold drink on the way was always enjoyable through the typically Spanish streets. The atmosphere in Church Square on Saturday evenings is fantastic with locals and holidaymakers sitting outside the tapas bars enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine . . . we saw two weddings and a funeral there one Saturday evening! Although there are no major stores, any provisions can be found within yards of the apartment - two mini-markets with butcher counters, a baker, fruit shop, bars, excellent restaurants and cafes. An ideal spot for a relaxing holiday, even without a car, and within easy travelling distance of the coast if you want. I would strongly recommend this property - we are hoping to return next year.

Alhaurin - September, 2008

Situated in a quiet location in the western part of the town, the spacious accommodation was clean and comfortable, with terrific views from the rear terrace over orchards and fincas to the sierras beyond.
The main commercial centre of the town is a pleasant 15 minute walk away past some beautifully restored traditional Spanish townhouses, while a small supermarket, restaurant and baker's are much closer at hand, together with the usual range of bars/cafeterias.
For those who haven't hired a car, the main bus stop is also about 15 minutes away and there was a regular hourly service to Malaga and several buses a day to Mijas.
There is easy access from the apartment to the main roads to these two locations, plus farther west to Ronda and north to a series of reservoirs, apparently known locally as the lake district. Practically every village en route is worth a visit.
The area's scenery was generally impressive and, in parts, wonderful and much greener than we had expected at that time of year.
We particularly liked the fact that, although there was a sprinkling of foreign toursists, Alhaurin is not geared towards mass tourism. Money has clearly been spent on renovating properties but this work has been done in traditional Spanish style.
The accommodation provides an ideal inland base from which to tour some of Andalucia's interior, whilst also being handily placed should a short trip to the coast be required. We have no hesitation in recommending both Alhaurin and this accommodation for those not wishing to become beach lobsters and, in fact, we have already done so. We shall definitely be back.

This is the second time our family (mum,dad, a 14, 12 & 8 year old) have stayed in this property and just as before we had a great holiday. The property is spacious and clean - we spent most of our time out on the terrace.

It is ideally situated for sightseeing. We hired a car at the airport and used it for all our trips - frequent visits to the pool at Mijas, the beaches at Marbella and Estepona and further afield to Rhonda, Cordoba and the Alhambra Palace at Granada (all well worth a visit).

At the end of the day we either stocked up at the local supermarket or went into town. There is a great choice of restaurants and bars and you get a chance to experience the Spanish way of life.

Go and find out for yourselves - you'll have a great time!
