| Notes: | The house is occupied by the owner for part of the year and has many personal touches. The kitchen is newly renovated to a high standard and is very well equipped. There is good mobile reception from the house, especially for Vodafone. |
The house
Calle Ancha is easily reached without drivers having to negotiate the village centre. Parking is on the street. Visitors will be welcomed and shown the workings of the house, which is very comfortably furnished, being the owner's home for part of the year. Satellite TV receives eight UK channels. Mid-stay maid-service is available on request at extra cost, and a washing machine is available for the use of guests.
The village
Jimena, one of the White Villages of Andalucia, is situated on the edge of the Alcornocales National Park. The village has small local shops and two little supermarkets. There are several good restaurants, plenty of local bars and a lively village life. Visit Hostal El Anon, with its lovely terrace bar and cosy dining rooms, or try tapas at la Cuenca. Jimena is a nature-lover's paradise: there are walks for all ages and abilities from the village centre. Bird life is abundant and the Spring flowers memorable. Ferests of cork oak and pine surround the village, and the river, one of the cleanest in Spain, is great for swimming in early summer. Later on, one can swim in the local public pools. .
The area
There is plenty to explore in the area, bot by car and on foot. Train journeys are also recommended: a day trip to Ronda on the train is well worthwhile, or one can go further afield to Seville or Granada. To the north are the impressive mountains around Grazalema, or take a day trip to Tarifa, with its African feel, fascinating shopping streets, and port with ships to Morocco. A tour of some of the other white villages, with their steep cobbled streets and convoluted history is rewarding - Ubrique, Jerez de la Frontera or the nearby villages on the road to Ronda are all worth exploring. The golf course around Sottogrande are twenty minutes away by car. And for days when one needs a cahnge from rustic life, the coast with all its up-to-date facilities is within easy reach.
