More Shabby Than Chic

This is a difficult one to review. The French have different standards to us (us being moaning British)
The Apartment is suitable for 4 persons only. It is in a good location at the foot of Montmartre (behind the apartment). The Metro station Anvers is steps away.
We were surprised that the Apartment was in a quite rough area, there are some quite shabby shops nearby but is steps away from the finicular which will take you to the Sacre coeur.
The Apartment was quite different from the photo's and in need of a good clean. The fridge had the remains of quite rancid vegatables and the smell was quite terrible. It did take me a few hours to clean the fridge and the sinks/showers etc but perhaps I am more fussy than most.
We were given 4 towels between a party of four and they would not have been used by me to wash the car. We did ask and were given a few extra towels (this did take some persuasion on my part as the owner did think one towel per person was quite enough (no hand towels or bath mats) but these were well past their best, I have mentioned this to the owner and hopefully he will upgrade them.in the future.
There are two double beds, one leads into an en suite shower room (no toilet) but the bed is very small albeit comfortable. The other double has two lovely windows which open out onto the main road. Both beds are makeshift but adequate and the linen was clean.
There is another small shower room with a loo and sink, all the bathrooms/kitchen sinks etc were quite grubby (again I could be more fussy than most).
There is a small kitchen area with dishwasher and fridge/freezer/micowave which was quite adequate.
The en suite has a washing machine (no drier) which was quite usefull given the lack of towels.
The sitting room area had a cd player a futon and a table and chairs for four people. The internet was not available although I did manage to hack into somebody else's wireless account (enough to check emails etc) there is no tv or dvd player.
The futon was very uncomfortable and not really suitable for sleeping on, a single duvet was supplied for this bed and my son did manage to sleep on it, although he is a teenager and can sleep on a clothes line!!
All in all we like the apartment, there was a supermarket nearby and a great Indian takeawy, it made a real change to have a home from home and not be staying in a hotel room. We would stay here again and hope it was cleaned more adequaltely next time.
