Lou Cantou is a 250 year old farm worker's stone cottage fully restored and modernised to a high standard. Situated in the centre of La Chapelle Aubareil, an attractive village with all facilities, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside but within a few miles of the some of the most delightful towns, villages and chateax in the region. The large dining/kitchen is fully equipped and all utensils are of good quality enabling use to be made of the wide variety of excellent produce available from the many markets around. French doors from the comfortably furnished sitting room lead to an attractive and secluded back garden, ideal for sunbathing and eating al fresco while listening to the nightingales. At the front of the cottage, table and chairs provide the best place for morning sun, coffee and croissants! A luxurious shower room and delightful bedrooms provide comfort while out of season guests can enjoy superb warmth and intimacy from the large wood burner. A real find!

The pretty village of La Chapelle Aubareil is ideally situated between the magnificent medieval town of Sarlat with its colourful street markets and numerous restaurants and Montignac on the river Vezere a centre for canoeing and kayaking. The village has a shop where you can purchase all essential provisions, a boulangerie, bar/restaurant and two further restaurants within 2 km. La Chapelle is surrounded by beautiful countryside close to numerous chateaux including Hautefort, Castelnaud and Les Millandes. The stunning villages of La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Domme are within easy reach as are countless historical sites including the world famous Lascaux caves. Another attraction of this area is the number of excellent eating places to be found many of which are listed in the Michelin red and green guides. For swimmers, Tamnies lake and sandy beach are just 8km from the cottage.

  • IN VIEW OF THE CURRENT VOLATILE EXCHANGE RATES, NON-EUROZONE CLIENTS PLEASE CONTACT US DIRECTLY FOR CURRENT RENTAL CHARGES. The owner can accept sterling by prior agreement. Electricity - 60kwh allowed per week. Rate above this charged at 0.10€ per kwh. Bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly. Beach towels are not provided.
    Supply and delivery of logs can be arranged at cost during the winter period.
  • Arrival: Saturday from 4 pm - departure Saturday by 10 am. A booking deposit equal to one third of the total rental cost is required with the booking form. Balance to be paid in full 4 weeks prior to arrival or on arrival by agreement only.
    A refundable security/damage deposit of 200€ must be paid in cash on arrival. Reasonable cleaning is included at the end of the rental period but excessive cleaning if necessary will be charged for. Credit and debit cards cannot be accepted.

Golf: There are 5 golf courses within 45 minutes from the cottage. We have a special deal with Lolivarie golf course, an 18 hole course, where our visitors pay fees as though playing 'with a member' - about 30% reduction on the normal fees.

Skiing: During the winter season the Auvergne provides intermediate and beginners skiing on the Massif de Sancy which can be reached within 2 hours easy driving from the cottage. Tarifs for ski passes and ski hire are very reasonable and there are 60 pistes and 40 lifts in the two resorts of Le Mont Dore and Super-Besse.

This is now our second visit to this lovely property. This house has been renovated recently to a very high standard. The owners have thought of everything that you could possibly need for a very comfortable stay. Even though this was our second consecutive visit we still found plenty of new things to see and do and the property is ideally located for all of the major attractions. We particularly enjoyed days at Tamnies lake and the great views from Les Jardins de Maqueyssac. There are plenty of local restaurants all very reasonably priced - we particularly liked hotel Laborder at Tamnies. The owners can also accommodate very young children with a highchair, cot, paddling pool and toys - greatly reducing the amount of things that you have to bring. The property is ideal for very young children as it is all on one level and the garden is completely enclosed. We had a lovely time and would recommend this property.

The photo images speak volumes - the front garden provides the alfresco breakfast venue, disturbed only by a tractor or one of the neighbours rushing to the village shop for bread, whilst the secluded back garden allows the sun to set over your barbequed dinner.
Inside, the standard of fitting out is modern and more than comprehensive, and if your home comforts are not quite achieved then your owners are not so far away as to delay meeting most of your every whims.
They are quite nice people too.
The village, which sits in the wooded hillsides between the attractive old town of Sarlat and the locals' town of Montignac, with its attractive riverside eateries, is blessed with a good local mini-market, a bar and several restaurants within walking distance (you'll just have to find them!).
The whole area is steeped in prehistoric history, with lots of nearby chateaux, cave dwellings and good riverside walks and canoing opportunities.
For a relaxing holiday in the sun Lou Cantou is pretty well perfect

The property description is accurate for location, layout and amenities. It has only recently been renovated and so is clean & well maintained. Excellent "customer service" from the owners. The area is full of lovely affordable restaurants, bars & cafes. There are many locations from which canoes can be hired for use on the Dordogne & Vereze rivers. There are simply too many historic towns & villages to mention but we would strongly recommend Sarlat & Monpazier (and all the Bastide towns). If you love markets then visit Sarlat on market day. Many of the locals claim not to speak English, but if you have a stab at speaking French they quickly reveal how fluent in English they actually are - it puts us to shame!! The atmosphere is pleasant & relaxed and it is a pleasure to see how respectful everyone is to each other - it puts our present culture into sharp perspective.
The property is a lovely cottage in a secluded village. The back garden a haven of peace & tranquility. The kitchen is fully equipped. The shower room spacious. The double bed comfortable - the duvet could keep out the coldest night. The property is well located with many historic attractions only a stones throw away. We have visited the Dordogne region in both Spring & Summer 2008 and on both occassions it has been a delightful experience.
Colin & Anne were perfect hosts - there when we needed them, supportive & informative when we had questions for them. Our "classifaction" would be - Highly Recommended - for the property, the area, the people, the food and the overall experience. Anne & Nigel
