Communications and boat life:
Stockholm is only half an hours drive away, but you can also take a regular boat service, either with a modern speed boat or a classical steam boat. The boat ride takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The little town Vaxholm, with only 5 000 inhabitants is five minutes drive, or 10 minutes on a bike. There are many possibilities to rent a boat or a sailing yacht, but this is best arranged in advance. The Stockholm Archipelago is the most extraordinary marine world in this part of Europe. There are more than 24 000 islands in an area that is about the same as Greater London. There are numerous possibilities of day excursions with Waxholmsbolaget, the shipping company that runs the regular boat service. You can for example take a steamer to the lovely island of Sandhamn with all its charming wooden houses and nice sand beaches.
