18th Montmartre holiday apartment: La Butte Montmartre

I was very happy with this flat, and wholeheartedly agree with the comments from Fifi001 (of Melbourne, Australia) and lizzygov (of Ireland) about both the flat and the helpfulness of the owner and housekeeper. It was a wonderful experience all-round (and I'd spent hour upon painful hour searching numerous online rental sites!).

FYI, the photos on the website (as they appeared at the time that I booked) accurately reflected the flat. I'll just mention the two rooms not pictured: the bathroom and the kitchen. The bathroom was both attractive and spotless -- it looked newly retiled, in fact. The kitchen was also clean, if very tiny -- you may well bang the back of your head against a cupboard (but the housekeeper had warned us to be careful of that); it's not really a kitchen for making grand meals.

I slept on the sofa bed in the living room and it was perfectly comfortable.

I travelled with a reasonably fit couple in their seventies; they were fine with the Montmartre steps.

The location just steps below Sacré Coeur is ideal. You'll be able to spot "home" from every Paris attraction that gives you a view of the city. It is also just far enough away from the tourists to offer a respite; inside the flat, it is quiet. And the surrounding neighbourhood is a diverse mix of cultures; and if you look, you can find restaurants where locals (vs. tourists) eat.

Bike Paris! Nearby Vélib stations include 25 rue de Clignancourt and 95 rue de Dunkerque.

I cannot say anything less than this - I loved this apartment. From the initial enquiry to the end of my stay, I had a wonderful experience.

The owner is delightful to deal with - always helpful and friendly and showed genuine concern regarding my stay. The housekeeper is also a pleasure and went out of her way to assist with orienting us with the area.

The flat itself is comfortable, well-equipped and very secure. The building has a security gate and door to access, then a second door required to access the area of the building in which the apartment is located. For those tired of the Montmartre steps, there is a lift to take you to the apartment door (very handy after a day of walking!).

The location is wonderful - right on the steps to Sacre Coeur and the Butte. Transport is close and easy to get (whether you prefer taxis, buses, train or the funicular) and good cafes are also within a five minute walk. There are small shops providing necessities at the foot of the steps or if you prefer, two supermarkets less than a ten minute walk from the apartment.

The flat is well-furnished and has everything a traveller needs (including guidebooks, maps and activity brochures). Importantly, it is also quiet and the beds (including the sofabed) are very comfortable. The owner has taken care to ensure that full operating instructions are left for all appliances and fittings, so there is no need for confusion during your stay.

The lovely Montmartre is at the top of the stairs and Paris is laid out before you. I'm not normally this effusive in reviews, but I have to say that I enjoyed a wonderful stay and could not have asked for anything more from the owner, housekeeper or apartment. I would have no hesitation in recommending the apartment to my friends (one is already planning her stay) and will definitely be returning in the future.

Lovely apartment in a gorgeous location. The owners have really thought of everything to make your stay as hassle free and comfortable as possible, from providing films to watch, CDs, DVD player to an information pack which tells you everything you could need to know, including recommended restaurants. Owner and Caretaker couldn't been more helpful,genuine and approachable even over the Christmas period. The location wouldn't be ideal for those who struggle with hills/steps but so close to the Sacre Coeur you'd forgive the hill! price is very reasonable, especially compared to others in the area. I would thoroughly recommend this property and will hopefully return one day. It is everything you could need and more.
Make sure to wander up the hill to Place du Tertre behind the Sacre Coeur, my new favourite place in Paris.
