For a really relaxing holiday arrive by Taxi. The village is self contained with shops and restaurants, there is also a farmers market most days with fresh fruit, vegtables and fish. The bus service is good and taxis are reasonably priced. Lagos is only a short journey away, for a fabulous day or night out.
Surrounding area:
Monchique is a breathtaking rural town, nestled between the hills of Foia and Picota, 20 minutes inland from Portimao on Portugal’s Algarve Coast. A green oasis of lush gardens, flowers and butterflies the old craggy rural town sits amongst steep cobbled streets in the Serra De Monchique mountain range, commanding a majestic view of the Western Algarve below. Caldas de Monchique is a charming centuries-old spa town. A wonderfully peaceful and tranquil setting to enjoy walks and picnics.
Slide and Splash at Lagoa is the nearest water park for somewhere to cool off on those hot summer days and Zoomarine at Guia (near Albufeira) although a little further away, (about a forty minute drive) is another great family day out - take your swimsuits as there are pools as well. Going west towards Sagres, there is a Blo karting track just beside the N125 past Vila do Bispo and of course there are always the more exposed beaches of the western Atlantic coast around Sagres for surfing.
Golf:
The Western Algarve benefits from an almost Californian climate, which makes this region ideal for golf in the autumn and spring. Burgau has 3 locally situated courses all within a 10 to 15 minute drive. Parque da Floresta was created by Spanish golf architect Pepe Gancedo in 1985 and is one of Europe's most spectacular golf courses. Parque De Flores is one of those rare courses, which will stretch your skills to their limits. Palmares is located near Meia Praia beach and enjoys stunning views over the Ocean towards Lagos. Five of the 18 holes are situated on the sand dunes running alongside the Ocean. Boavista, opened in 2002, was designed by Howard Swan. He has created a championship course but has harmonized and integrated these challenging 18 holes into an area of outstanding beauty. Just a 30 minute drive away is Penina, which was the first golf course built in the Algarve and has been the home to several of the Portuguese Open Championships.
