Country Cottage with Pool near Beaches

The cottage is in La Ramigere, a small hamlet 1km from the picturesque port of Mortagne-sur-Gironde, on the coast of Charente-Maritime. It is at the end of a cul-de-sac adjacent to open countryside, surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields. The cottage sleeps four people in comfort, making it ideal for a family with 2 children or 2 couples. The cottage has been redecorated in 2008 and is in excellent condition. Accommodation comprises: The modern kitchen/dining area has an electric oven, a microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. The lounge is comfortably furnished and heated in winter by a wood-burning stove. There is 1 double bedroom and a modern bathroom upstairs, and a twin bedroom downstairs. A security fence around the pool area makes the garden very safe for children. The terrace and small garden are equipped with patio furniture, sun loungers and a bar-b-que. The pool is 7 metres x 3.5 metres with Roman steps.

Local shops in Mortagne include bakers, butcher, mini market, bank, Tourist Information, and various local markets. Royan and Saintes have hypermarkets, boutiques and excellent daily markets. There are many places of historical interest at Saintes (Roman amphitheatre), Blaye (Citadelle), Ile d'Aix (Napolean's pre-exile home), La Rochelle and Pons, Talmont. For wine lovers, take the car ferry from Royan or Blaye to the Medoc (Chateaux Rothschild, Margaux, Lafite). If you like Cognac (Visit Hennessy, Martell, etc) - about 1 hour drive. But don't ignore the local growers in Charente (vin de pays) and,of course, Pineau des Charentes. There are many restaurants in the surrounding area, to cater for all tastes and prices. Fish is a speciality. Excellent beaches can be found at St Georges-de-Didionne, Royan, Meschers, St Palais-sur-mer and there are many small sandy coves for you to explore. The surrounding area is fairly flat, making it ideal for cycling and walking.
