Recently converted to a very high standard by the present owner, this spacious barn dates back over one hundred years. Surrounded by glorious open countryside, this barn is detached within a large lawned area, has lots of parking for cars and makes an ideal holiday home for families and groups. The indoor heated swimming pool with large hot tub is attached to the property and has magnificent views over to the Yorkshire Dales. Catley Hill is ideally positioned to visit a number of great towns and cities being only 9 miles from Durham City, 20 miles from the popular quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne, 10 miles from Hartlepool Marina and Historic Quay and just over an hour from the beautiful Northumberland Coast as it is from the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. So whether you wanted to stay at home and relax in our luxurious facilities or take a trip to one of the many interesting and nearby attractions, it is up to you.

Located five minutes from the A1M Junction 61, Catley Hill is only 10 minutes drive from beautiful Durham City with its wonderful Cathedral, Castle and river, 15 minutes from Hartlepool with its Marina, Historic Quay and Seaton Carew beach,forty minutes from the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales and 20 minutes to Beamish Open Air Museum, 30 minutes to the Metro Shopping Centre and 30 minutes to Newcastle upon Tyne. We are ideally situated. We are only 5 miles from Sedgefield which is a lovely village with several pubs and restaurants and a Country Park. Trimdon Village is our nearest village (1 mile) with a couple of good food pubs, a small supermarket, fish & chip shop and Chinese Takeaway etc. Morgans Field light aerodrome is situated approximately 1 mile south.

Relaxation and entertainment for all ages!

Annual reunion for 2 families including 3 teenagers ( youngest 13), 20 something students and the parents.

Everyone loved the light,welcoming environment with luxury features. The dining table was big enough to enjoy family dinner followed by a film on the flat screen TV.
The pool creates a country club feel, with bathrobes provided. So we blended exercise, fun and relaxation.With fabulous views -we didn't go far and enjoyed a weekend that felt like a week.

The separate kitchen provided a bonus addition space.
You need to know each other well to make use of all the beds. However, we all had fresh linen and nice touches like soap, body lotion and fruit to match a hotel break.

We appreciated the provision of cloths and cleaning materials with excellent advice on what to do and where to eat.
Warm welcome from the hosts who then left us to enjoy ourselves and pass back the key when we left. They have a great recipe for ensuring you consider the booking was well worth making.

Ideal for a group gathering, but also very special for a couple or four people.

We hope to return for longer next time.

A week in the North

The property description was spot on. The property itself was spotless and well-equipped with high quality stuff. The kitchen was good. The cinema-sound big screen TV was excellent (the digital signal wasn't the strongest). But, more than anything, the pool and hot tub were fantastic, with huge windows looking out over the fields. The dogs (a collie and a watchermacallit) were friendly and up for playing endless games of catch. The local co-op had all the stuff we needed, and we found a farm shop nearby with excellent meat.

All round a fabulous retreat, better, perhaps, for people like the four of us, who just wanted to get away from the cares of the world, than for anyone seeking lots of sightseeing, being south of Durham rather than north.

Oh, and if you're going into Durham, use the excellent park n'ride.
