High on a cliff overlooking the sea, Gloucester Place & Essex Cottage command one of Tobago’s finest views of the Caribbean in one direction and the Rain Forrest Reserve in the other. Just a short walk from the beach in the picturesque fishing village of Parlatuvier, this area is considered one of the loveliest on the island. Guests can enjoy the mesmerizing crashing of waves against the rocks, daily migrations of frigate birds as they cruise along the coast, or listen to the cries of the cocricos, chatter of the parrots, and songs of other island birds. The property consists of two houses and an infinity edge swimming pool, bounded by a river on one side and the sea on the other. Surrounding the houses are gardens, mature coconut palms, mango and other fruit trees, and lots of banana plants. Paths lead along the hillside past the fruit trees, down to Creighton River and our own water fall and swimming hole. The Main Ridge Forest trail is just 10 minutes away,

Essex cottage is built on two levels. On the main level of there is a bed room with a double bed and a full bath, with plenty of closet space to store and hang your clothing. The kitchen is equipped with full size appliances, including a microwave oven, coffee maker and toaster. In the sitting area there is a large bookcase with nearly 100 books to chose from. The best spot to socialize is the porch overlooking the sea that has 4 very comfortable chairs, a table, and a bird feeder that has attracted over 32 species of birds. The cottage is perched on top of the hillside and the shutters along the entire west side open onto a spectacular view of tree tops with the Caribbean sea in the background. Downstairs is the second bedroom with twin beds and its own bath, dressing area, closet and bureau and space to add an extra bed. The path from the lower level leads directly to the pool, then continues down the hillside to our own river waterfall, pool and eventually to the sea.

The village is known for its fishing and has changed little over the last 40 years. It is located between the island's world class scuba diving sites. Rest, read, relax and enjoy the view, sunbathe by the pool, or walk along the rivers to hidden water falls and forest glens. Meet the fishermen on the jetty when they come in with their catch, or try fishing yourself from a local pirogue or at the end of the jetty at sunset.

  • There is an ample supply of hot water for both bath rooms in the cottage. The shower stalls are custom designed and roomy. Top quality towels and bath mats are used in each. We also provide separate towels for the pool or beach. Hair dryers are available.
