High on a cliff overlooking the sea, Gloucester Place & Essex Cottage command one of Tobago’s finest views of the Caribbean in one direction and the Rain Forrest Reserve in the other. Just a short walk from the beach in the picturesque fishing village of Parlatuvier, this area is considered one of the loveliest on the island. Guests can enjoy the mesmerizing crashing of waves against the rocks, daily migrations of frigate birds as they cruise along the coast, or listen to the cries of the cocricos, chatter of the parrots, and songs of other island birds. The property consists of two houses and an infinity edge swimming pool, bounded by a river on one side and the sea on the other. Surrounding the houses are gardens, mature coconut palms, mango and other fruit trees, and lots of banana plants. Paths lead along the hillside past the fruit trees, down to Creighton River and our own water fall and swimming hole. The Main Ridge Forest trail is just 10 minutes away,

Situated at the end of a gently sloping drive, the blue roof and white walls of Gloucester Place blend in perfectly with the sea and sky beyond. Greeting you as you walk into the entrance is a carved two-headed jaguar beneath a large painting of tropical banana plants. Doors to the left lead to steps to the garden and pool. Straight ahead is the living area with a sofa and chairs, the dining room, and kitchen with a built in eating and serving counter. The best spot, however, is the spacious veranda with a panoramic view of the sea and furnished with comfortable chairs and side tables. The lighted steps to the pool take you to another venue for evening relaxing. The three guest rooms are upstairs. All have ensuite baths and are air conditioned to ensure a comfortable night's sleep. There is also a sitting area upstairs with a large collection of books. Breakfast is provided, and the hosts are happy to prepare other meals on request.

The village is known for its fishing and has changed little over the last 40 years. It is located between the island's world class scuba diving sites. Rest, read, relax and enjoy the view, sunbathe by the pool, or walk along the rivers to hidden water falls and forest glens. Meet the fishermen on the jetty when they come in with their catch, or try fishing yourself from a local pirogue or at the end of the jetty at sunset.

  • The Concord is corner room with large windows giving views of the sea in two directions. It opens directly onto the upstairs veranda which has a table and chairs offering a relaxing spot for reading or socializing. There is a stair way leading down to the garden and main social areas. The Carlisle has two large windows and also a private balcony overlooking the sea and rain forest. The Lexington has twin beds which can convert to a king sized bed. It overlooks the hillside garden and opens onto a walk way that leads to the upstairs veranda. Bed room furnishings, including side tables with reading lamps, are of the highest standard. All rooms have build in wardrobes and drawers. Top quality linens and down/feather pillows, two per person, are provided. All rooms are air-conditioned and include the best breakfast on the island.
