Summer in Meribel Les Allues:
Chalet Franoux is located within 2 minutes walk of the village of Les Allues, with the free ski bus service being only a few minutes walk away. The gondola lift is within walking distance and is open during the summer months and well as winter ski season.
Throughout the summer many of the villages within the Meribel Valley hosts its own village fetes with processions and dancing, with many of the locals coming out in traditional dress and setting up stalls with their delicious home-made regional foods and wines & spirits.
There are a host of sports and activities ranging from fishing, river rafting, paragliding, mountain biking, hiking, tennis, horse riding, roller blading and adventure park.
Meribel has a world-class 18-hole golf course, which is open to the public and offers tuition and competitions throughout the summer months.
Other local towns worth a visit:
Bozel, about 20 minutes drive from Les Allues, has a swimming lake and beach and is the perfect setting for a lazy family afternoon.
Annecy, approx 50 minutes drive away, with its huge clear water lake, offers sailing, swimming, trips on the lake steamers and has a wonderful medieval old town with a canal running through. There are numerous restaurants to try, or take a picnic and sit by the lake. Roller-blading and cycling on designated paths around the lake are very popular activities in this beautiful town.
On the outskirts of Albertville, about 40 minutes drive away, there is a beautiful medieval village perched on a hill called Cite de Conflans. Stroll around the ancient houses, shops, churches and chataux, which have all been restored and preserved.
Ski:
Skiing in the Meribel Valley and the 3 Valleys region is fantastic and offers skiing for all abilities. There are over 600 kms of linked pistes, serviced by a fast and efficient lift service. Throughout the 3 valleys there is extensive off-piste skiing for the experts. There are a number of excellent ski schools and ski passes can be ordered on-line and delivered to Chalet Franoux. Both the Meribel and Courchevel Valleys have snowboarding parks.
Meribel has many lively apres ski venues with live bands and traditional savoyard bars and restaurants. For those with enough energy after a day's skiing, there are 3 night clubs open until 4.00 am.
For non skiers there is ice skating, bowling, swimming, or snowshoe walking on marked paths.
The Parc Olympique houses a swimming pool, climbing wall, a dedicated fitness and well-being area with Turkish baths, sauna, hydo-massages and spa, together with a fitness and weights room, plus dance studio.
Golf:
Meribel has its own 18 hole golf course, which is open June – September, offering great golf in a stunning setting. The course varies in altitude from approximately 1600m to 1800m. Many of the holes are flanked by tall pine trees and there are spectacular views of the mountains above Meribel down to villages lower in the valley.
Competitions run throughout the summer, which are open to the public. The “Gourmet Drive” is held every summer, when golf becomes a fun celebration. The event attracts gastronomes seeking fine foods and those seeking the golf challenge.
Meribel's golf course is open to members and non-members. Golf tuition is offered for adults and children of all levels throughout the summer months.
