Our holiday cottage is in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the quiet hamlet of Charlton, 3 miles from Shaftesbury. Built of local green sand stone and recently renovated, this pretty cottage has 2 comfortable bedrooms and sleeps 6+cot. There is a bright sitting room with French doors to the garden and a generous kitchen / diner also with French doors to the garden. The garden has lovely views across open countryside to Charlton Down. Cranborne Chase is wonderful, undulating country with ancient woodland. Walk down the lane from the cottage, across fields to Ludwell where you will find a warm welcome at the village stores and a fantastic butcher selling local meat. Enjoy a drink and a meal at the local pub which dates back to the 16th century. Walk along the footpath up the hill to Win Green, the highest point in Dorset and you can see as far as the Needles on the Isle of Wight. The cottage is perfect for a tranquil break in a rural idyll

The Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury has some lovely shops and cafes, visit Gold Hill and see the Abbey ruins. Wardour Castle and Larmer Tree Gardens are both nearby. Further afield it is 30 miles to windsurfing and sailing heaven in Poole Harbour from where you can catch the chain ferry across to Studland beach. Dorset's Jurassic coast is also 30 miles, visit Lulworth Cove or Kimmeridge and Corfe Castle. Salisbury and Stonehenge are half an hour's drive. If you are here at the end of August enjoy the spectacle of The Great Dorset Steam Fair at nearby Blandford Forum.

My family and I, consisting of myself and my partner (40ish year olds), our 15 year old daughter and my 78 year old Father have recently spent a week at this wonderful rural retreat. The village is peaceful with friendly neighbours and has lovely walks taking in fields of sheep and alpacas, cress beds and streams. The location was perfect, within easy driving distance for Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth etc and Monkey World/Bovington Tank Museum in addition to other places of interest such as Fleet Air Arm Museum, Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge, not to mention the lovely town of Shaftesbury.
The cottage was very comfortable with a huge kitchen that we spent most of the time in around the table with views through the rear patio doors over fields with regular sights of light aircraft going to or from the local airfield - which has excellent views and a lovely cafe.
We appreciated the ensuite bathroom with large walk in shower and also the downstairs WC/washroom.
The kitchen was well equipped with excellent hi-tec cooker and hob, dishwasher and washing machine (please note no iron, so you may want to take your own)
Contact with Helen was friendly and efficient and we would definately recommend this property to friends and family.
We look forward to visiting again in the not too distant future.
