Photos and Description of this Gloucester and Cheltenham Area holiday house Luxury Self Catering: Contemporary Cotswolds Holiday Rental for Families

The Old Chapel is a contemporary, Cotswolds family holiday home, sleeping up to 10 (maximum 8 adults). This beautiful, self-catering accommodation is set on the slopes of the Slad Valley, in the heart of the Cotswold Hills, one of the most picturesque and unspoiled locations in England. The hamlet of Slad, immortalised by Laurie Lee in Cider with Rosie, boasts stunning views, a choice of great walks and one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds – The Woolpack. The converted chapel, built in 1865 and thoroughly renovated in 2008, provides contemporary, stylish and very comfortable holiday accommodation. 4 bedrooms, large, state-of-the-art kitchen-diner and huge open plan living spaces make The Old Chapel a unique Cotswolds holiday let. Surrounded by open meadows, woodland and rolling hills, with walks directly from the door, there's plenty to keep families busy here, all year round. The Old Chapel is not your average Cotswolds cottage. It's a unique, stylish family holiday home.

The Cotswolds is designated as England's largest 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' – as an area it’s 100 miles north to south. Here in the South Cotswolds the area has a slightly wilder nature, especially in the five beautiful valleys around Stroud, of which Slad Valley is considered the most unspoiled. These are the real Cotswold Hills, nature reserves, meadows, wild orchids, steep climbs and wonderful views, away from the crowds of tourists you find in north Gloucestershire. Two miles away is Painswick, 'Queen of the Cotswolds', one of many beautiful villages in the area. The Rococo Garden is a must, and you have a choice of stunning mansions, abbeys and castles within a short drive. Closer to home - a 2 minute walk away - is the famous Woolpack Inn, a timeless pub that serves fantastic food and ales and one of the best views you can imagine. Nearby Stroud has an award-winning farmers' market on Saturdays, and swimming, cinema and bowling in case of bad weather.

Excellent Choice!

Review Submitted: May 14, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We enjoyed a wonderful 3 day stay in the Old Chapel in April 2009 together with two children, 7 & 4 and grandparents. Fantastic property, true to the description on the internet site and just as beautiful as the photos suggest. Local pub was a big hit as were the lovely walks which started very close to the house. Fantastic views and a very well equipped house. House furnishings were of an excellent quality. Highly recommended.

We loved the Old Chapel

Review Submitted: September 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We spent 4 nights at The Old Chapel at the beginning of September and had a lovely time. The property is truly great and had everything we could have wanted including a gorgeous state of the art kitchen and HUGE master bedroom with lovely artwork and decor. Our friend's 10 month old had everything she needed in the family room and toys and cot were much appreciated. The games room was also great with DVDs, PS2 and SingStar although luckily for the rest of the party, the karaoke disc didn't make it out its box!
We had dinner in the famous Woolpack pub just a short walk down the road and enjoyed excellent food and wine. The farmers market in Stroud on Saturday mornings is filled with so many stalls of fresh fruit, veg, cheese, meat and pastries that you needn't go anywhere else.
A great stay and I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

I just wanted to let you know that the 10 of us had a fantastic time at the Old Chapel.  What an amazing place you have there.  The weather was fantastic which was a real bonus.  We will certainly be visiting the Old Chapel again in the future.  I think it would be very difficult to find accommodation as good anywhere else.  The place had everything we needed and more.

A million miles from your average country rental

Tolleg London
Review Submitted: September 27, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This is a perfect spot for walkers, foodies and lazy people alike. The chapel is renovated with love and real style so guests can happily spend hours lounging by the fire or soaking up the stunning Slad views. The contemporary furnishings are a million miles from your average country rental, so this really feels like a fabulous home from home. Out back you can climb the meadow and roll your way back down, or head out front and amble by the water to a classic English pub, gifted by Central Casting. The kids loved the gravestones (not a bit spooky), nearby goats and the quirky petalled windows in the big bedrooms. If you leave the spacious house - and you really don't have to - a trip to the local farmers' market lets you put the flawless kitchen to good use. There is everything on hand for the enthusiastic cook and a huge refectory table and pew for the happy eaters. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are spotless, yet nothing about this house feels contrived or overly precious. A perfect holiday let whatever the weather - thanks for sharing it with us.
