Overpriced
Review Submitted: September 28, 2009
Date of Stay: September 2009
We were genuinely disappointed when we arrived but made the best of things. To be fair we arrived early and the owner was still cleaning the villa, he was friendly and helpful and even put our shopping away for us.
They did not come back at all during our stay to check everything was OK even though they did visit adjoining villa's to prepare them for other visitors.
The villa was in need of updating, the bathroom, while almost clean was dated, the kitchen was in need of modernising, the bedrooms were a good size but the beds were uncomfortable, the air conditioning worked a treat.
The pool was great but the poolside furniture was old, one hard bed with a mildewed sponge cover and 2 plastic suspended beds that had long since lost their suspension, There was a lilo which looked like it had been floating in a swamp for three months and dead plants all around the villa, my wife described it as needing a woman’s touch, it really was not good enough. The villa is not worth what we paid.
The good points, The Albatross Restaurant 100 metres away served excellent food and offered a warm welcome, another 100 metres down some steps and you were on a fantastic sandy beach.
The villa is situated on a housing estate and a car is a must, there are some good shops nearby but a lack of choice for eating out in the evening, the local area seemed a little run down and Porto Romantica despite the name was more like Toxteth by the sea.
The saving grace for this villa was the pool even though it was next to a quiet road the privacy was maintained with a hedge, the pool seemed a recent addition but was not quite finished.
There was a shower for the pool but this was unusable, it was fixed to a wall and even a contortionist would struggle to use it, a note in the villa said they were waiting for parts but it had clearly been like this for some time.
Fundamentally the villa was fine it just needs a small amount of money spending on furniture and fittings to bring it up to standard.
The communication with the agent was very good and there were no problems with arrangements.
A good week despite the quality of the villa's fixtures and fittings
Owner's Response: Owner Response,
This review does not match comments of previous guests, which, together with phone and written observations, are very complimentary.
The house is occupied right throught the winter months as a main residence and fixtures and fittings reflect our preferences.
Most of the negative comments ( ie. sun-beds, old lilo, dead plants.etc.) could have been remedied by one phone call whilst in the resort, and steps have been taken to address these elements.
The property has been well booked right through 2008 and 2009 with no guests adverse comments at all, and a full check of all of the fixtures, fittings etc. is being done prior to the 2010 season.
