Local Facilities:
Several very good supermarkets will provide all your international food needs and there is also a small daily market and a butcher's. The many restaurants range from simple Portuguese via a range of international eating places including Indian, Chinese & Italian restaurant. Shops include Newsagents, Chemists, several Souvenir shops and Boutiques. Luz even boasts a Post Office and a Bank as well as, of course, a Catholic Church (where the Anglican Church of the Algarve also has services at regular intervals).
Lagos Excursion:
LAGOS (6 kms) much of the town centre is pedestrian-only, there is a myriad of attractive narrow streets opening into pleasant squares with many restaurants, bars, night-clubs and discotheques. There is a wide range of shops, two regular daily markets and a Saturday market. This historic town has retained much of its old town wall system and there is a wealth of other buildings of interest including the ancient slave market, the hospital, which was formerly the residence of Henry the Navigator, and the fabulous golden church of Santo António. The town museum is well worth a visit and the new Cultural Centre offers a varied programme of exhibitions, plays, and musical events. Exhibitions of paintings and sculpture are often held in the slave market and in the Council Headquarters. Lagos has a wide waterfront promenade linking the old “Fortaleza”, at the harbour mouth, to the yacht marina. Boat trips to the famous Algarve caves and cliffs. Lagos also has its own superb beaches.
Sporting Facilities:
Clients staying at Quinta Alta Vista can play at specially discounted green fees at the new Boa Vista course about 4 kms away. It has 18 holes a par of 72 and a lengh of 6053 metres. There are some wonderful views over Lagos, Luz and the sea. Also there are discounted green fees at Parque da Floresta, 12kms to the west, or at Palmares about 10kms to the east and Penina, Alto Golf, Morgado do Reguengo and Carvoeiro, which are all with 45 minutes drive.
HORSERIDING is available at Almadena, some 4kms away, and the Burgau Sports Centre, which is 6kms distant, offers TENNIS, SQUASH, TABLE TENNIS a SWIMMING POOL, a GYMNASIUM and a FITNESS CENTRE.
TENNIS, BOWLS, an indoor SWIMMING POOL and a FITNESS CENTRE are also available at Parque da Floresta. For BIRDWATCHERS, and those who enjoy NATURAL HISTORY or BOTANY, the area offers many splendid sites.
WATERSPORTS and FISHING are available at several locations in the western Algarve (including Praia da Luz).
