We are delighted to offer two properties which have been beautifully restored from a former monastery in the heart of the village of Capena, near Rome. Casa Galilei has been restored from the former guest quarters of the monastery and sleeps 6/8 people. It is a stunning apartment, and even has its own hidden caves which date back to Etruscan times. Casa Marconi is a small village house which accommodates up to four people. It was built more recently, yet still includes some interesting features such as an original wooden ceiling, and a secret cantina or cave at the back of the house. The two properties are located in the friendly village of Capena, which has plenty of local colour and history, as well as wonderful cuisine and a thriving artists' community. It is approximately 40 minutes by car from the centre of Rome, which means that you can explore the City by day, and return to a quiet rural retreat in the evening. In addition, the coast can be reached by car in 45 minutes.

Casa Galilei, formerly the guest quarters of a 16th century monastery, has been fully restored yet retains many original features such as exposed chestnut beams and hand-fired terracotta tiles throughout. Despite its antiquity, it is equipped to a high standard, with central heating and all modern amenities including WiFi access. This historic apartment can accommodate 6/8 people in 3/4 bedrooms with two bathrooms. It is 200 sq.metres in size and arranged over 2 floors with an entrance at ground level outside the monastery and an entrance inside the monastery. Casa Galilei is located in the friendly village of Capena, which has plenty of local colour and history, as well as wonderful cuisine and a thriving artists' community. It is approximately 40 minutes by car from the centre of Rome, which means that you can explore the City by day, and return to a quiet rural retreat in the evening. In addition, the coast can be reached by car in 45 minutes.

Capena is ideally located for those who wish to explore Rome by day and return to somewhere quieter in the evening. Rome can be reached in approximately 45 minutes, either by car or by public transport. The nearest beaches are at Fregene, approximately 45 mins away by car. We recommend Il Villagio dei Pescatori for a decent beach and some reasonably-priced fish restaurants. A favourite coastal town is Sperlonga which is about 1.5 hours away by car. It is a spectacular white cliff town overlooking long sandy beaches, and is located between Rome and Naples. The islands of Ponza and Elba are also well worth a visit. The best and nearest place to cool off in Summer is in a lake. Lake Bracciano is a 45 minute drive away, and we recommend lunch at the Paradiso del Golfo Restaurant. Lake Martignano is also located approximately 45 minutes away by car, and is a little more off the beaten track, but is very beautiful and offers a free beach.

  • The rental period is Saturday to Saturday. We require a 25% deposit on booking, with the balance due 60 days prior to departure. In addition, we request a EURO100 damages deposit, which is refundable at the end of the holiday, provided that the property has been left in a reasonable condition. We are currently offering a special rate of EURO 899 for month-long bookings taken during the Winter months of 2009/2010. This offer is based on two people sharing Casa Galilei.
