Grazalema holiday cottage: Benamahoma

We went to Benamahoma in earlyJuly - it was perfect walking and a good central place to visit the area. The cottage was very comfortable with electric heating and a servicable kitchen - it was all clean. The description was accurate and it was where it said it would be! The owner was really helpful and left us lots of leaflets and maps, there was also a guy acting as caretaker who got us wood for the barbeque. The owner also sorted a kettle and mugs for us (not very Spanish apparently). I would be happy to recommend it to friends and we are thinking of going back with another another couple next year. The village is very pretty and had a couple of mini-,market like shops which sold basic provisions and there were two restaurants and a couple or three bars. We visted the restaurant just across the road from the cottages and they were very accomadating - they even managed to cope with my vegetarian diet. Water from the taps is drinkable but we walked up into the village and collected ours from the ice cold spring - it was fantastic. The area is absolutely beautiful, clear rivers, fresh smelling forests and lots of good walking with spectacular views. My favourite trip was to the Garganta Verde where we saw Griffon Vultures flying low into the gorge. The tourist information in El Bosque was very helpful. We also went to an excellent Bodega where we were plied with wine. There are lovely towns and villages scattered through the area, each with its own speciality. I am particularly interested in wildlife so we booked up with a guide who was arranged by the cottage owner. The trip was a day long and we saw lots of things we would have missed, including an eagles nest complete with chick (through his scope of course). There were lots of things we didn't manage to fit in, I would have liked to go canoeing and perhaps on a longer trek but we only had a week. We will definitely go back.
