The Convent of Christ/Tomar Castle – all part of the same building is a small village in itself with kitchen gardens, laundry and kitchens, cemetery ramparts and definitely an experience not to be missed. The Castle is steeped in history and bathed in tranquillity. There are exciting ramparts from which to imagine sighting the enemy. Perhaps the spiritual element gives the tranquillity as the magnificent Charola was where the Knights took mass, fully armed on horseback before going off to the holy wars.
