Alcaucin; a gem

We had a wonderful hoiday at this apartment. Bedrooms, furnishing, linen and towels were first class. The ceiling fans were needed at night. (Aircon would be even better) The Kitchen was well equiped, but little used by us. We found eating out preferable to self catering in the heat, 34-39C everyday.
Located at the top of the hill at the edge of the village, the location commanded great views of the locality to the south, west and north. We were surpised that the other apartments were largely unoccupied, so we had the pool for our sole use. The ample sunbeds, airbeds for sole use of this apartment were a bonus. The 5 year old became profiscient in the pool. I felt the garden next to the pool could be bettered perhaps with the addition of a bar-b-q area, so siiting out in the evening could be an option.
We felt at home in the village instantly. Calos's bar was very welcoming and the food was good and reasonably priced. Regular free liquors at the time of the bill paying made payment easier. We also ate at the bar next to the roundabout ai the other end of the street...only 150 yards away, which was also good. Carlos's was a great spot to watch the sun go down.
The water from the local source is excellent. Don't buy bottled water.
There are also a couple of bakers, three small grocery shops, and fresh meat available in a butchers and one of the shops.
We witnessed the preparations for the village fiesta. We were really sorry to miss it.
The best beaches are probably Burriana Beach at Nerja. Nerja seems to have avoided the excesses of resorts west of Malaga. Nerja Caves are worth a visit too..
We were disappoited in Seaworld in Benalmedena. Overpriced and small.
Beware of parking on the front in Torremolinos...or avoid altogether! We had our car taken having parked in a parking bay, which turned out to be no parking. A fine at the police station, and then an even hefftier levy at the pound. A very expensive day.
The drive through the pass north to Grenada is good. We came back through the National Park to the top of the village. The road is largely unmade but scenic and you will see birdlife and the wild mountain goats. We walked here in the early morning too after parking the car at one of two picnic sites.
We had no issues with the apartment so did not have to use the local agents.
