Yarmouth, a ferry port and yachting centre, is located on the western side of the Island at the mouth of the Yar estuary. The historic little town is guarded by Yarmouth Castle (English Heritage), built by Henry VIII in 1547 The harbour attracts international yachts and cruisers, and visitors who enjoy the lively range of shops, festivals and art exhibitions. The picturesque narrow streets and town square are lined by flower decked shops and pubs; restaurants range from Michelin star quality through family-friendly pubs to cafes with outside tables for celebrating fine weather late into the evening, many meals having an emphasis on local produce and freshly caught fish. Walks and rides start here, leading along the Yar estuary (excellent bird watching), to Downs, Tennyson Trail and beaches of the West Wight. Fishing, off road cycling and watersports may be arranged locally. Helpful Tourist Information base on the quay. Ferries (35 mins.) regularly from Lymington in the New Forest.

Further details for this holiday bungalow rental in Yarmouth, United Kingdom

The living space is exceptionally large, with wide patio doors enabling entrance for a wheelchair, avoiding steps.

Having a family bathroom and 2 downstairs bedrooms, one with door from patio, the house appeals to groups where not everyone wants to climb stairs!

With 2 en suite bedrooms upstairs, a second family may be accommodated in privacy too.

Outside, the sunny patio with dining table and barbecue enables outdoor meals when the weather is good.

Reclining chairs offer somewhere to relax in seclusion, with a great outlook over fields.

Geothermal heating ensures warmth all year, with plenty of hotwater.

The house is ideally placed for sailing, fishing, golf, cycling, visits to English Heritage properties...and relaxing.

There is a variety of beaches within a 5 mile radius, from the wild coast at Brook and Compton to the little family oriented Colwell Bay with its gently sloping sand.

Footpaths pass within 50m of the house joining the Hamstead Trail, enabling visitors to explore Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coastline. Walks along Compton Down offer wonderful vistas to Freshwater Bay, and as much fresh air as you could wish for.

Just 30 m away is the village green with a fitness centre for burning off extra energy or a game of football.

Walks along the south coast 3 miles away offer chances to find fossils and dinosaur footprints.

With an hourly bus service through the village, cars may be left at home and Yarmouth's restaurants and pubs are reached in 10 minutes.

Most of the Island's attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House, Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill may be reached by bus, travelling through Newport, only 20 minutes away.

Low light pollution and wide views give great opportunities to observe the night sky.

Bird life is varied with visitors reporting little owls, barn owls, kestrels, sparrowhawks and buzzard, pheasants and partridges as well as the smaller garden birds. Brown hares provide a spectacle as they race across the field, and last week a stoat was sunning himself in the garden.

Other Activities:

Isle of Wight Music Festival, Bestival, carnivals, yacht regattas

Great location - lovely house.

Review Submitted: June 5, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
We stayed in this lovely house for a week in May this year. The house is set in a beautiful quiet location, with wonderful views at the rear of the house to the Downs in the distance. When we stayed in mid May the fields behind the house were just a carpet of vibrant yellow, which made the view all the more dramatic. The house has a large south facing patio with these views.

The house is very comfortable and well laid out, lots of space for a large group, family or two couples as we were. Two of the bedrooms and one bathroom are downstairs so this enabled both couples to have their own privacy which worked very well. One of the upstairs bedrooms even has its own bath tub positioned in the bedroom so that you can enjoy the view!

The property is well situated for visitors who enjoy the countryside and all its beauty in the West Wight. Great place to stay for walkers, and is 2 mins walk from a bus stop for those who like to use the very good bus system on the Island. It is about 10 mins drive away from Yarmouth and its very attractive harbour.

I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy a very comfortable stay in an attractive rural location.

A Christmas Holiday Review

Review Submitted: January 10, 2010 Date of Stay: December 2009
We've just spent a very happy Christmas week at this property. We were a family of 9 including three teenagers and grandparents in their mid -eighties. The space worked brilliantly with roomy bedrooms and a large open-plan living area. We loved the location- we're great walkers so to be able to stride out straight from the house was a real bonus. There are great trails with fabulous views on the doorstep so it's definitely worth investing in a OS map.
We found the owners very helpful and really appreciated the beautiful Xmas tree they arranged for us .
There are great coastal paths (or drives),only a short drive away and the Needles , also not far are spectacular .

Lovely Property

Review Submitted: April 27, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Rented this property for New year, looks even better in real life than the pictures. We had a group of ten people, and there was more than enough room to fit us all in. Jill and Steve, were brilliant- quick and efficent with all dealings and return of deposit. Will definetly be looking to rent this property again. It was an enjoyable stay and easy to access. Highly recommended!
