SKIING/ SNOWBOARDING:
Less than five minutes drive from the local ski-lift, and a vast selection of excellent skiing available within a 20 minute drive of the apartment. A free ski bus runs from close by.
If you are first time skiers, we are happy to arrange private lessons for you and accompany you to the slopes on the first morning, help you to arrange ski hire and introduce you to your private ski instructor.
If you are not skiers and just want to enjoy being in the beautiful alpine environment, we can suggest some lovely places to visit and some fun activities that everyone can enjoy.
CYCLING/WALKING/RUNNING:
There are some lovely well signposted routes locally, that take you through breathtaking scenery and we will be happy to suggest some walks to you that are just perfect for you whether you are a serious hiker/cyclist or just want a scenic walk which takes in some nice places to stop for refreshments throughout the day.Alpine Meadows is actually on one scenic walking/running route, so you great walking or running is literally on your doorstep!
Autumn is especially popular with walkers, runners and cyclists, the weather can still be warm and sunny and the scenery is spectacular as the mountainsides change from the greens of summer to the vibrant golden tones of Autumn. Guest have told us that they think it rivals better known autumn venues such as New England!
ADVENTand CHRISTMAS MARKETS:
A fantastic holiday to really put you in the festive spirit! Advent markets take place every weekend in from mid November until the end of December at all the villages around the Wolfgangsee lake, selling seasonal produce and traditional Austrian gifts. Christmas music played by local bands, chestnuts roasting and warming mugs of Gluhwein all help to make this a magical start to the festive season. Round it all off with a cruise around the candlelit lake to make this a perfect break.Why not book a long weekend to explore the Christmas Markets of Wlofgangsee or Salzburg.
Ski:
Alpine Meadows has a great central location within easy reach of a wide range of slopes suitable for all abilities. A selection of our favourites are given below:
Bad Ischl's own ski mountain the Katrin is less than five minutes drive away.
Postalm is about 20 minutes drive. Europe's second highest plateau and perfect for novices.There is a great ski school and a Family Fun Arena with Europe's longest 'Magic Carpet' and lots of things to play on.
Gosau and Russbach in the vast Dachstein West resort are an easy 25 minutes drive and are ideal for skiers and boarders of all abilities. There are ski schools and creche facilites.
Dachstein Kripenstein with its huge glacier is about 30 minutes drive and is a haven for experts and freestylers
Rettenbach Alm, close to our house is great for cross-country skiing.
A free ski-bus runs to all these slopes, so if you don't fancy driving, it's no problem!
