Lanzarote:
This entirely unique and exotic island was created by the volcanic activity of years past. During a visit to Fire Mountain, in the Timanfaya national park, you can see food being cooked over craters using lava stones, and also camels leading visitors to the seat of the 'fire devil'. Other attractions are the fantasy grotto 'Jameos del Agua' and 'Cueva de los Verdes' which are among the longest lava tunnels in the world. In the south is the emerald lagoon 'El Golfo' and the golden beaches of Papagayo. Lanzarote boasts the best weather in the Canary Islands. It has the driest climate and most sunshine making for an unbeatable holiday location. Playa Blanca is often described as a sleepy little fishing village in the south of the island, but in truth it has long outgrown this tag and is now emerging as the islands fastest growing hot spot. Development has been especially rapid here with the coastline now commandeered by luxury hotels and beautiful Spanish style villas.
Playa Blanca.:
Situated at the southernmost tip of the island is the picturesque resort of Playa Blanca, from where you can enjoy marvellous views of Fuerteventura and Los Lobos. Playa Blanca (White Beach) enjoys the most hours of sunlight on the island, and arguably the best and safest beaches on the Island, from Playa Flamingo with its white sandy beach and gently sloping calm water, the larger beach of Playa Dorada with jet skis, banana boats etc available for hire, to the unforgettable wilder beaches of Papagoya. The ferry port provides a gateway to Fuerteventura, making Playa Blanca an excellent base for those who enjoy island hopping. Despite the last decade of development the town itself retains much of its charm, especially along the sea front where there are plenty of good restaurants, many of which offer views across to the simmering lights of Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca is now emerging as an attractive and more upmarket alternative to the other resorts on the Island.
Night Life.:
While the relatively new Marina Rubicon offers an attractive alternative to the main seafront promenade for atmospheric bars and restaurants, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants along the promenade, with many of them providing live music most nights of the week. Family entertainment / shows are predominantly based in the many excellent hotels and cater to a wide variety of tastes. For those who prefer night clubs or disco bars, there are a small number available. Also, the much lively resort of Puerto Del Carmen is a mere 20 minute drive away. Car hire is recommended in Lanzarote, however there is a bus stop and taxi rank located just a 2 minute walk from the villa & fares are reasonable. The bus runs half hourly from early till late.
