A snug haven in heaven

My husband and I just loved our stay near Melrand in Le Grenier, the smaller of the two appartments offered by Martyn and Jenny. The countryside is a dream for people who like walking or cycling - green fields and forests intersecting, small granite villages with market squares inclusive of churches or little cathedrals...the little churches in the forests, wayside shrines...And the interesting birdlife - the hypnotic cooing of the local pigeon seemed in the absence of the usual grating noises of modern life like a voice from another time. The appartment is small but a total delight, with it's own private small lawn terrace; all the features in the appartment are simple but well thought out to make a stay very comfortable. The quiet village of Melrand, with its excellent bounagerie/patisserie, is a delightful 5 minute walk away, past the ancient wayside 'calvary' and over the clear little river Sarr. Martyn and Jenny were warm, marvellous, helpful without being remotely intrusive, hosts - ideal really. We would stay there again at the drop of a hat! and for the price, an absolute bargain. The only caution would be that as there is no local public transport, if you don't have a car (we didn't) come prepared to cycle (bike hire not too far away - Martyn and Jenny can advise) and walk. A car would have made things easier ...but perhaps we might have missed some of those wonderful local wanderings.
Thank you very much Jenny and Martyn, including for the pick-up in Auray!
