Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Derbyshire, United Kingdom

Holmesfield : Holmesfield Holmesfield is a Parish based around two centres of population; the village of Holmesfield itself, and the hamlet of Millthorpe. It is made up of a number of farming hamlets situated above the Cordwell Valley. The village is very pleasantly situated in a highly respectable neighbourhood and contains several very genteel habitations. The Parish extends beyond Owler Bar to the West and towards Dronfield to the East. The centre of the parish is marked by St Swithins parish church, which was built in 1826, which can be seen from almost all of the surrounding areas. Amongst the local amenities are eight pubs, (including The Angel Inn, Horns Inn, Travellers Rest Inn and the George & Dragon) and a number of restaurants; both a football and cricket pitch, a village hall (that can be booked by members of the public) and a host of groups and societies to accommodate many an interest, and the parish’s most recent addition, the Vicarage was added in 1999.

Areas of Interest within walking distance.: Fanshawe Gate Hall in Holmesfield is one of the most popular private gardens in north Derbyshire. It combines traditional cottage garden planting with magnificent topiary and water features. Holmesfield’s important buildings are Holmesfield Hall, dated 1613, with additions built in the 18th century, and Woodthorpe Hall, a large 17th century, gabled manor house, dated 1636.

Peak District: The property overlooks the Peak National Park - where there is an abundance of things to do. Every activity you can imagine is available in some shape or form. Over 22 million people visit the Peak District every year and when you get here ..you'll know why. If you are a keen walker - a guide can be arranged a very reasonable fee to arrange day walks taking in some of the finest views in Europe! Just let the owners know in advance. If you are interested in off road mountain biking then there are plenty of tracks. Hathersage village (7 miles away) has a great heated outdoor pool that is open from April - end September and is definitely worth a visit. Chatsworth House is 6 miles away and is a must visit!

Other Activities: Close to Chatsworth House, Hathersage, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and many other historical points of interest.

A great getaway

Review Submitted: July 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This fantastic house was just what we had hoped for when we had a hen weekend recently. It surpassed my expectations even though I had seen the pictures on the internet. Everything about it is superb; gorgeous decor, really spacious, great courtyard and garden and a wonderful hot-tub that we made full use of! There's also a gas bbq and a pool table and fussball table which were great fun.The lounge and kitchen are plenty big enough for large groups and the bedrooms are really lovely, with plenty of room even if you share. It's in a lovely location with the back garden overlooking the greenery of the peak district and we were highly amused by the very distant neighbour using his helicopter several times a day! It's within walking distance of pubs, a short drive from major towns and would be great for a walking holiday. The owners also live nextdoor and are really friendly so if there's any problems they're right there to help you out. As a hen weekend venue it was perfect but it's appeal knows no bounds as it would be ideal for families, walkers, adventure weekenders, pretty much anybody to be honest. If someone told me they didn't like this house they would be lying or insane! It is a quiet location though, so if you're looking for a rowdy hen/stag party it may not be the place for you. Based on our experience I really cannot fault it, plus the dogs next door are great playmates if you're missing your own dogs back at home! If you're in two minds about whether this house is the right choice for you, I'd advise you to just book it. You won't regret it, it's fab.
Owner's Response: This is one of the nicest reviews we have had to date. This is the end of the first year that we have rent this house..and it is great finish to the first year! Thank you for your kind words. Here's to many more visits from you and your friends

Family Gathering for Mum

M&J G N E Lincs
Review Submitted: November 11, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
The Old Robin Hood was booked for a family gathering to celebrate Mum’s 70th at the start of November and we all agreed it was the perfect venue.
Tremendous ‘wow’ factor on arrival, even if we did have one bumped head very quickly, a really tough choice as to which bedroom to pick and not helped by the excellent bathrooms and en-suite.
The best was the lounge and dining area with that spectacular view, it made the family meal we arranged really special. The space was tremendous enabling us to have a whale of a time. The hot tub proved very popular, especially with the younger ones (although as it was November we could have done with a handy hook for dressing gown/towel). The dogs provided an extra touch by pinching flip flops/slippers. We needed the exercise anyway! The games room was great especially the pool table, TV good, although not heavily used and the Stereo just what was wanted. We did not realise how much some people enjoy a wood burner, kept some of them busy for ages.
Well provided for with the house contents but we still explored the local hostelries, which were within walking distance in the village. The Angel and the Travellers Rest were both excellent. Especially pleased with the Thai at the latter. Moorends was incredible value for money.
Lovely walks from the house for those of us who wanted the fresh air and more within a short journey. We particularly enjoyed Froggatt Edge and Bakewell.
All in all an excellent venue for a large party be it friends or family. Very civilised and comfortable. Will certainly look to use it again for any similar gatherings.

Great Venue

forgedweller norwich
Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We have just returned from a week at the Robin Hood. The weekend was spent with friends celebrating a big birthday and when they returned home on the Monday, after a quick linen change, my family arrived.

The beauty and comfort of the cottage is perfect for a large gathering. There are spaces everywhere for people to chat and enjoy.

There are a couple of steps here and there which are a problem for partially sighted and the elderly but but we used paper to highlight the areas and we had no mishaps.

The whole area is right there next to the peaks so walking is great. Also a twenty minute drive to Sheffield town centre, canal walks etc. Chatsworth, Bakewell etc.

Eating out was easy. There are so many resturants nearby you are spoilt for choice. We had a take away from the local Thai restaurant and it was fantastic.

We did miss not having a DVD player with the lovely big TV but I understand that is being rectified.

Thanks again to the owners who were great. A wonderful spot.

Beautiful House, Beautiful location

Review Submitted: September 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Myself and 14 others visited this house for my boyfriends suprise 30th (he was not expecting his friends to be there on our arrival). We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and couldnt ask for anything more. The house and its surroundings fully exceeded our expectations. All rooms are very spacious and offer outstanding views, with a huge garden, which was lovely in the sunshine! The owneres where really nice and very helpful prior to our arrival, and are very approachable if you need their help, otherwise there is no interuption into your stay. There are a few local pubs nearby and some nice places to eat a few miles out. We went to a local pub, named the Peacock - served nice meals at reasonable prices. All in all this was a brilliant weekend away for myself and friends, we where all sad to leave and hope to return in the future. If you are thinking about booking in at the Old Robin Hood, do it, you will not be dissappointed!
