Holmesfield
Holmesfield Holmesfield is a Parish based around two centres of population; the village of Holmesfield itself, and the hamlet of Millthorpe. It is made up of a number of farming hamlets situated above the Cordwell Valley. The village is very pleasantly situated in a highly respectable neighbourhood and contains several very genteel habitations. The Parish extends beyond Owler Bar to the West and towards Dronfield to the East. The centre of the parish is marked by St Swithins parish church, which was built in 1826, which can be seen from almost all of the surrounding areas. Amongst the local amenities are eight pubs, (including The Angel Inn, Horns Inn, Travellers Rest Inn and the George & Dragon) and a number of restaurants; both a football and cricket pitch, a village hall (that can be booked by members of the public) and a host of groups and societies to accommodate many an interest, and the parish’s most recent addition, the Vicarage was added in 1999.
Areas of Interest within walking distance.
Fanshawe Gate Hall in Holmesfield is one of the most popular private gardens in north Derbyshire. It combines traditional cottage garden planting with magnificent topiary and water features. Holmesfield’s important buildings are Holmesfield Hall, dated 1613, with additions built in the 18th century, and Woodthorpe Hall, a large 17th century, gabled manor house, dated 1636.
Peak District
The property overlooks the Peak National Park - where there is an abundance of things to do. Every activity you can imagine is available in some shape or form. Over 22 million people visit the Peak District every year and when you get here ..you'll know why. If you are a keen walker - a guide can be arranged a very reasonable fee to arrange day walks taking in some of the finest views in Europe! Just let the owners know in advance. If you are interested in off road mountain biking then there are plenty of tracks. Hathersage village (7 miles away) has a great heated outdoor pool that is open from April - end September and is definitely worth a visit.
Other Activities Close to Chatsworth House, Hathersage, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and many other historical points of interest.

Fantastic house, complete luxury, great location

Review Submitted: July 10, 2008, Date of stay: June, 2008
We came as a group for 7 days at the end of June. This house is so spacious, and luxurious! There is a great hot tub outside - with fantastic views. You can leave the house and just walk 25 yards and you are into lots of different footpaths that take you onto the Moors. We walked to Hathersage one day - it is about 7 miles - and had lunch in a great pub called the Millstone. Some of the party had bikes - again within seconds they were off into the wilds of the Peak District. By the way there is a really big garage where you can lock up bikes safely overnight - an it had a place to leave our mucky boots.
There are a few great country pubs near the house, the George was good on Friday night, a few beers and a game of pool. We had lunch in the Cricket in - about a 4 mile walk across the moors towards Totley. This is a gourmet pub - great food and good value. The owners were really great - they had left us some tea and milk ..and a bottle of wine for when we arrived - we were impressed!
A great holiday ..would recommend for families, groups of friends (like us) who just wanted to get away and explore the Peak District. I have just read this review again ..and by the way we didn't just eat and drink!
Owner's response:
You've said it all. We are delighted that you did some walking and cycling - we are always encouraging people to get out and discover the Peak district!
