My wife, sister-in-law & mother-in-law stayed for a week in May 2009. Our biggest disappointment was it was only a week. My wife and I have rented apartments in CVO since 1994. We reckon we've been about 10 times. This apartment has been the best. It's description on the property web site was exactly right. Well appointed, clean, well maintained and everything you'd want at a holiday apartment. And it's location was ideal.
One of the comments in their guest book was that it was a pity there's no BBQ. We bought a disposable one and had our sardines on the terrace so there's no real problem.
Some of the added extras were excellent such as the electric awnings over the terrace when it got just that bit too hot for us oldies. Parking was a problem as, immediately outside the door, there are two parking spaces reserved for customers of the farmacia so I had to keep the car about 200-400 mtrs away on the Out road. The GNR seemed to be particularly keen on issuing tickets. The apartment was very handy for local restaurants / bars and mini markets.
We found the Italian restaurant on Estrada de Farol a bit overpriced considering our main meals were only pasta dishes. On the other hand Restaurant a Fonte, 50 mtrs from the apartment was very good value and would cetainly recommend it. Further up the street the Funky Chicken takeway is the only place I've been given a glass of port while waiting for my Frango Piri Piri.
One thing to be aware of, and this is not a reflection on the owner, my sister/mother in law were leaving on later flights than us and the property manager, said she would arrange a taxi. Sure enough the taxi arrived and took them to the airport and then charged Euro70. I think that's a bit steep. I should have arranged this before hand through the carvoeiro web site site. (Euro51)
Owner's Response: We are very pleased to read this review. We try and do our utmost to keep the Penthouse in top condition.
There is a small barbeque which can be used in the storecupboard on the landing.
Our villa manager who looks after the property and clients of Casa Amarela is looking into the rather steep taxi charges, the normal rate should be about 55 - 60 Euro's for up to 4 people. The local council has promised that there will be carparking in the near future.
