Comfortable family farmhouse, surrounded by a breathtaking view of vineyards and olive groves, but only 5 minutes from the village of Rufina (famous for its wine) and just half an hour from central Florence. Ideal for everyone from keen adventurers interested in seeing the sights of one of Europe's most famous cities to vacationers seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city by enjoying a sweeping panorama view while relaxing with a glass of wine on the outdoor patio. The house has three spacious bedrooms, with plenty of wardrobe space, 2 with double beds and 1 with bunk beds, sleeping 6 people. There are 2 bathrooms, both of which have showers, and one of which has a separate bath tub. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, oven, microwave, American / Italian coffee machine, and also a very large fireplace (great for cooking on in the wintertime). Local attractions include wine tasting, horse riding, tennis, golf, swimming, fishing, and world-class cuisine.

5 minutes down the road is the village of Rufina (famous for it's wine). There you will find everything you need, grocery shops, supermarket, weekly market and a good choice of restaurants and pizzerias. There are local tennis courts and stables. Wine tasting can be arranged in one of the local vineyards. There are also several public swimming pools nearby. There is a fishing lake 2 minutes away with a good pizzeria where you can fish until midnight in the summer. Explore the countryside, watch out for wild boars, deer, porcupines and pheasants, some of our loca inhabitants. Take the local train into Florence and save yourself the hassle of parking. It's a 30 minute ride and takes you right into the centre of town. Apart from Florence we are well placed for day trips to Pisa, Siena and Arezzo, just to name a few places. There are also local places of interest to visit nearby.

  • Due to a first successful year of renting we are in the process of refurbishing 2 of the bedrooms and completely renovating both bathrooms. So there will be 2 double bedrooms with double beds and 1 double bedroom with 2 single beds. All 3 bedrooms are a good size with plenty of wardrobe space. All rooms have beautiful views and the bedrooms are light and airy. Crib / cot can be arranged. Photos will be posted as soon as we finish the work.

Notes: Comfortable family farmhouse. It is very typically tuscan with terra cotta floors and wood in the bedrooms. High ceilings with beams. Kitchen is well equipped with gas cooker, oven, fridge and microwave.

The Home Think Italy, think Tuscany and Florence. Well we have the farmhouse in the Tuscan hills, but just 25 kms from the city of Florence, so you get the best of both worlds. Step outside the door and you are in the garden with an incredible view over the vineyards and olive trees, and the village of Rufina at the bottom of the hill. There is a covered eating area with table, perfect for dinner outside on a hot summer's night with a refreshing glass of wine. So although the poor Florentines can't sleep for the heat you will find our place pleasantly cool and a pleasure to come home to after a day's sightseeing. There is also a barbeque in the garden. There is an above the ground swimming pool. We have a cleaning lady who can come during the week, if you need her.

We have friendly Italian neighbours so we are not isolated but also we have our privacy. The village of Rufina (famous for it's wine) is just 5 minutes by car. Nearby we can arrange ceramic painting , cookery classes and if you really want to chill out we can arrange for a massage at home.

Other Activities: have a massage! my neighbour was masseur for the female italiian athletic team, she's at the bottom of my hill

Nous étions à la recherche d'une maison offrant la possibilité de profiter de la Toscane sous tous ses aspects. Le résultat a été parfait, tant de par les vues imprenables à partir de la maison, la localisation pour les visites qui s'imposaient, le confort tout à fait approprié de la maison que la gentillesse des propriétaires pour nous être agréables sous tous les angles. Nous avons passé d'excellentes vacances !
De façon purement pratique il n'y avait rien d'important à mentionner concernant la location pour une famille avec deux adultes et quatre enfants. La maison possède un vécu et il fait bon de s'approprier le temps du séjour les pièces spacieuses et agréables. Tout répondait à ce qui avait été convenu, voire était mieux que prévu en ce compris l'accueil plus qu'agréable des propriétaires.

Thanks a lot to you, Suzy and Salvatore, for your friendliness and having made of this stay at Pontassieve/Rufina unforgettable holidays. We will also remember the marvellous evening we had together. For sure we will come back to Tuscany !

I can,t write a good review. i would like to because I corresponded with the owners over a long period of time before going and was very happy with the e mails. Beautiful property but not taken care of. Unpleasan odor in house....no hot water as hot water heater problematique. Incomplete kitchen facilities........no coffee maker.......obliged to take our own garbage to nearest town..........poor bathroom facilities . Old showers and bath tub leaked......................wonderful view...........period.
Owner's Response: I'm sorry but there was a problem with these people from the moment they arrived. They actually wanted to be in the Cinque Terre, which is almost 3 hours by car from my house, they said it looked a lot closer on the map! There is NO unpleasant odour in the house. The water heater is not problematical, they just had to come downstairs right away and tell me, when they did eventually tell me all that had to be done was to press a button on the heater, it hadn't been used for a few months. Regarding rubbish collection in the country, my local council does not do rubbish collections in the country, this is the norm in a lot of areas. There are 2 italian expresso makers and an american coffee machine. Bathrooms are old, but clean and functional. We will be completely redoing them at the end of the season.

Rufina farmhouse, florence, Tuscany

My family and I stayed at Suzy's farmhouse for three weeks in August/September 2008.

Suzy was a wonderful hostess and made us very welcome. She was more than happy to accomodate my family which included my parents and three children aged 7, 5 and 6 months.

Suzy made sure the baby had a cot and highchair available on arrival.

Another welcome touch was a food hamper awaiting us on arrival, a lovely sight after flying with children.

The house was spacious with adequate room for four adults and three children. The kitchen was well equiped and the open fire made the villa warm and cosy.

There was a paved outdoor area the kids to play games and they also enjoyed playing in the garden. As the house is located near the end of a road it was very quiet and safe for the kids to play.

The house is located in Rufina which is a five minute car trip from the villa. One thing we did not realise is how hilly the area is, so a car is pretty much essential to get to town. It is an easy trip to Florence by train and about half an hour to drive.

The village of Rufina has a supermarket and cafes, chemist etc. For other shopping it is best to go to Florence.

We would not hesitate to recommend this villa to others. We were made welcome and the facilities were very family friendly.

Unvergesslicher Familienurlaub in der Toskana

Wir verbrachten die letzten zwei Juliwochen in der Fereinwohnung von Suzy und Salvatore.
Dort fanden wir genügend Platz für uns und unsere vier Kinder im Alter von 14 bis 5 Jahren. Die Küche ist groß; 3 Schlafzimmer und zwei Badezimmer sind optimal für einen entspannten Urlaub.
Besonders genossen haben wir den tollen Blick und die Ruhe und Zurückgezogenheit nach einem erlebnisreichen Tag in Florenz oder einem anderen schönen Ausflugsziel in der Toskana.
Die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich und aufgeschlossen, hilfsbereit und großzügig. Suzy hat z.B. nach unseren Wünschen am Anreistag Lebensmittel eingekauft und den Kühlschrank gefüllt. Außerdem gab es Früchte aus dem Garten und das eigene köstliche Olivenöl zum Kochen.
Sie haben uns teilhaben lassen an ihrem Leben, ohne sich in unsere Pläne einzumischen.
Wir fanden es sehr schön, daß wir keine Bettwäsche und Handtücher mitbringen mußten. Besonders angenehm waren der Wäschewechsel und die Zwischenreinigung nach einer Woche.
Die Vermieter haben selber eine große Familie und einen großen Freundeskreis, mit dem sie sich gerne treffen und die schönen Sommernächte genießen.
Für die Kinder steht ein sehr großes Planschbecken im Garten, das sie gerne und oft genutzt haben.
Die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten für Lebensmittel in Rufina sind sehr gut.
Die Nähe zu Florenz hat es uns ermöglicht, durch mehrmalige Besuche die Stadt und ihre Sehenswürdigkeiten auch mit vielen und teilweise kleineren Kindern kennenlernen zu können.
Abschließend möchten wir sagen, dass man in dieser Ferienwohnung einen schönen, erholsamen und individuellen Familienurlaub verbringen kann. Suzy und Salvatore waren immer für uns da mit Hilfe, Rat und Fürsorge.
Natürlich gibt es überall "Ecken und Kanten", aber die empfindet sicher jeder unterschiedlich stark und die haben auch keinen Einfluß auf den Gesamteindruck und die Erinnerung an eine schöne Zeit in der Toskana.

We stayed for two weeks in july . Wonderful renovated old farmhouse with flair. Clean, comfortable and well staffed

Wir waren im Juli 09 für zwei Wochen Gäste von Suzy und Salvatore. Wir wurden mit einem Welcome Drink begrüßt. Wir wurden in der Zeit gut und freundlich beraten. Alle wichtigen und auch kleineren Sehenswürdigkeiten sind im Umkreis von 60-90 min zu erreichen (TIP Zug ab Rufina über Florenz erspart in den Touristischen Hauptstädten die Parkplatzsuche, ist bequem und verglichen mit der Deutschen Bahn preiswert)
Das Haus ist gut ausgestattet und man merkt es (nicht nur) an den Möbeln, es steckt viel Liebe und Persönlichkeit dahinter
Die Küche hat alles was man braucht, auch wenn man gerne selbst kocht (Tip: Salvatore kann auch kochen und tut es, wenn man ihn fragt)
Bäder sind alt aber sauber und funktionstüchtig (Kommentar der Kanadier ist unverständlich)
Lärm nur vom Hahn, der morgens gerne kräht oder Hunde , die sich auch nachts in der Umgebung schon mal "unterhalten" - eben Landleben
Gastgeber sind selbst eine große Familie, die gerne zusammenkommt, man spürt jedoch immer: es wird Rücksicht auf Gäste genommen.
Wir sind mit fünf Erwachsenen (2 Generationen) dort gewesen und haben Freiraum für gemeinsame und unterschiedliche Interessen gefunden)
Allen, die nicht auf Strandleben aus sind, sondern auf Kultur und Natur kann ich dieses Ferienhaus sehr empfehlen.
