This freshly refurbished first floor apartment is minutes drive away from the charming medieval town of Barga, said to be one of Italy's top 20 most beautiful towns. There are no windy, narrow mountain roads to get to this house and there is plenty of parking for 4 plus cars at the doorstep. Once you arrive you will be greeted by the spectacular views over the Garfagnana and all day sun over the garden where there is an eating area and gazebo. For the cooler months the view can be enjoyed from our sunny hall with picture windows over the panorama. All the rooms are decorated by our interior designer and new Italian furniture gives this apartment a modern, country feel. Two rooms have luxurious king size beds, one room has two singles plus there is a high quality sofa bed in the second sitting room. TV, DVD, iPod dock and open fire for winter months in sitting room (central heating), Hairdryer, Dishwasher, gas hob, freezer, dining area. Bespoke Italian fitted kitchen, shower and bath.

Barga lies 40 kilometres north of the historic city of Lucca at the southern end of the beautiful area known as the Garfagnana which sits between the Apuan Alps and the Appenines in the very north of Tuscany. Barga is just over an hour from Pisa airport and is accessed by motorway to Lucca and then by A class road to the Barga district. Barga is known for it's annual jazz festival each summer and holidays for artists and walking. Nearby places of note are Castelnuovo, Bagni di Lucca, Viareggio and Tirrenia for beaches, Abetone for skiing and Florence for culture and designer shopping

  • There is a very comfortable sofa bed in the second sitting room which is new for 2008. This room connects the main sitting room to the bedroom part of the house and would suit those who may wish to rise early before the rest of the family or group. This sitting room also serves as a quiet space away from the TV for reading and relaxing but feels more like an annex to the main room making it possible to sit and talk to those in the main sitting room, it is situated up four steps. Superb quality stone floors throughout this property and classic Italian shutters at all windows to keep the house cool but also for flinging open to admire the views from every aspect!

Notes: The apartment is accessed via an external stone staircase and there are steps inside the property so these may be difficult for the elderly or infirm. However, we have stayed there with 4 young children and the steps have never been a problem. White cotton bed linen, hand towels and kitchen towels are provided but please kindly bring your own towels for the bath and beach. There is an iron and full sized ironing board for your use as well as a hairdryer and adapters for any electrical items you may bring with you. There is a DVD player in the sitting room (bring your favourite DVD or watch one of ours) and a new Widescreen TV with digital channels such as MTV and BBC World News. There are plenty of guide books to the local area to help plan your days out.

we enjoyed our stay at Villa Ulivi very much. The flat is large, airy, elegantly furnished and well-equipped. The medieval town of Barga, with its lovely restaurants and bars, is only a 5 minute drive away. Villa Ulivi is also perfect for exploring the Garfagnana region of Tuscany, but it's also handy for Lucca, Pisa and Florence or the seaside. All in all a very pleasant experience. Recommended!

I have recently returned form a stay in a superb apartment situated just outside of the pretty town of Barga.
The house itself was well equipped and very clean, the living space was perfect with a enterance offering some fantastic views over the mountains.
A very enjoyable stay and i have already reccommended the apartment to several of my friends and am considering returning to the house in the New Year.
Many thanks for a relaxing and stress free stay.
