Chalet le Meleze is one of a small group of chalets, 'La Clairiere', in lovely grounds with views across to the beautiful valley down to Thones. The private grounds include parking, swimming pool, table tennis and children's area. It is I hour from Geneva. 5 minutes from La Clusaz (132 km of ski slopes - the highest 2616m) and 10 minutes to Grand Bornand/Chinaillon. In winter, ski buses to both resorts stop by the entrance to La Clairiere. The chalet is a perfect base for winter and summer holidays - summer offers wonderful hiking, mountain biking, hang-gliding etc. Annecy, one of France's most beautiful cities, is 30 mins' drive. Its lake and the small resorts around it provide sailing, swimming and boat trips. The village of St Jean de Sixt, which has all essentials, is 5 minutes' walk from our chalet and there are plenty of good restaurants all around. The area remains unspoiled and very 'French', as all villages are still working communities. We and our children all love it.

Nearest Train: Annecy at 30 Kilometres
Nearest Motorway: A41 at 25 Kilometres
Car: necessary
La Clusaz is the main ski and hiking resort of the area, with ski, now board and bike rental shops, ski schools, and guides for winter off-piste and summer climbing. Thones is a pretty, working town and better for 'supplies' - a good Champion , an excellent butcher and a large Saturday market. This is the centre of Reblochon cheese (best from the farm shops in summer) so don't leave without some! Annecy is a smart, historic town with elegant shops and restaurants, a monthly antiques fair and a huge retail park (Auchan, Decathlon etc.) at Grand Epagny. For those interested in 20th century history, the area was a centre of resistance in WWII; there is a small museum outside Thones as well as the plateau des Glieres worth a visit.

Notes: The grounds include a badminton/volley ball court, a games room and children play area with equipment. There are plenty of board games and cards etc. in the chalet. The swimming pool is open mid-June to mid-September. The chalet has a separate, lockable room for skis and boots in winter, or outdoor clothes in summer. Bed linen and towels available at additional cost of 20 euros per person per week.

The chalet is clean ,well arranged, decorated (wood primarily), very well equipped (kitchen, TV, ski room closed, heated) a local agency is used as intermediary, with a very sympathetic staff. A bus (to be taken right in front) brings to Clusaz or Le Grand Bornand, to note multitude the evening for the return and of the delay sometimes .
We discovered it in winter, it will be necessary to test in summer….( for swimming pool ) !!!
