Photos and Description of this Ventnor holiday cottage Private & peaceful but just minutes from amenities & child-friendly beach

Ocean View Cottage sits above the picturesque Victorian seaside town of Ventnor at the southern tip of the Isle of Wight. As the name suggests, it enjoys stunning sea views from the living room and main bedroom. The décor is laid back 'shabby chic' making it just as suitable for a romantic getaway as for a family 'bucket & spade' holiday. Ventnor's child-friendly beach was last year awarded the coveted Blue Flag for water quality, safety & environmental management. The cottage is equally suited to those wishing to cook at home or dine out. For self-catering there is a real butcher, and 2 delis in town. Freshly caught fish, crab & lobster are also available direct from local fishermen. The restaurant choice is fabulous for a small town - ranging from the Michelin star chef cooking at the Hambrough Hotel to seafood in the laid back atmosphere of the Ale & Oyster pub on the Esplanade.

Location: Ventnor in United Kingdom

The island has some 500 miles of footpaths and bridleways, 60 miles of breathtaking Heritage Coast & virtually half the island is categorised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with many Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It's no surprise that we have both walking and cycling festivals each year. There are also the Isle of Wight Festival & Bestival for the very best in music events. The island has so many visitor attractions for every age & taste that if (God forbid) it should rain every day of your stay, you wouldn't run out of places to see & things to do. It's impossible to encapsulate the Island's attraction but to give a flavour....lobsters, lemurs, beach huts, Osbourne House, Garlic Farm, Lavender Farm, red squirrels, tigers, steam trains, extreme sports, Carrisbrooke Castle, sand castle, Roman villa, model village, donkeys, dinosaurs, Cowes and cows....

Ventnor itself is an absolute gem

dotty lotty London
Review Submitted: September 4, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The owner of Ocean View really has taken care when decorating and furnishing the cottage. It’s both stylish and comfy and, most importantly, spotlessly clean. The whole family enjoyed the bright airy feel to the place and, of course, the fabulous sea views. We’ll greatly miss sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine, watching the boats sail by. The dog also highly recommends the cottage for access to such varied ‘walkies’. He especially enjoyed the downs where you feel as if are on the very top of the island.
Ventnor itself is an absolute gem as it’s smaller neighbour Steephill Cove where you can eat freshly caught crab & lobster. Well worth the climb down from the Botanic Gardens. Other recommendations would be the Ale & Oyster on the Esplanade and the Volunteer Pub – totally authentic with excellent beers. Don’t miss the little Heritage Museum and the Longshoreman’s Museum on the front which the kids enjoyed even more than the amusement arcade.

A great base for exploring the Isle of White

Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Our party of 7 (one baby) had a lovely time in the isle of wight. The cottage was clean, bright and a great base for us. The cottage was well equipped for cooking in. There was plenty of room for all of us. The beautiful views over Ventnor to the ocean were a massive plus for this property.
Ventor itself is a quiet town with some lovely restaurants, Phileas Foggs being our favourite.
We will certainly return in the near future.

A Room with a View

Shamwari Godalming, Surrey
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
There is always a feeling of being very far away from the usual humdrum of life when on the Isle of Wight; and even more so when staying at Ocean View Cottage. It really is a wonderful use of space and far bigger than the desciption suggests, so 2 couples, along with a 2-year old, never felt that we were on top of each other. The downstairs room provides respite for children or harassed parents, the bathroom is truly spacious, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the main bedroom is bound to please all slushy romantics! The view from the lounge is worth the stay alone - a panoramic sentinel high above the town of Ventnor. The walk back to the cottage is bound to make you feel the burn, yet after a lazy afternoon of tapas and vino at the Met or a couple of local pints at the Spyglass, I was quite happy to ease some of my calorific guilt with a power-amble up the winding roads. The others chose - quite sensibly -to call for a cab so the climb back up the hill should not deter travellers. You are spoilt for choice in Ventnor and are never far from a great range of restaurants, takeaways (excellent fish and chips just a little stroll further up the road) and pubs. As for sightseeing ideas, all the info you need is in the flat, and although we did a fair bit of driving around, the urge is simply to stay put and relax in the cottage. Although, I really would suggest a stroll to Steephill Cove and around the botanical gardens, and all this can be done from your doorstep.
Is there a downside? My only gripe would be the traffic noise from the road above the cottage which you are aware of in the downsatirs and back bedrooms.Of course, it's only a problem if you sleep in late, and why would you want to do that when there is an island that needs exploring? And this is the IoW, so don't expect too much roaring traffic!
All in all, I can heartily recommend the cottage. Debby was very helpful in the run-up to our stay; the cottage was clean; my daughter enjoyed the 'kiddie' vids on offer; the kitchen was used often and pleased this 'wannabe-chef', and we all enjoyed just 'hanging' about the cottage - which is the best endorsement I can give.
And, of couse, we are now planning our next trip.

Superb Cottage with Fabulous Views!

dancinghens Somerset, United Kingdom
Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Stayed at the cottage Spring 09. Can highly recommend it to anyone. Breathtaking views of the sea from lounge & main bedroom, tastefully decorated interior, everything was included that any holidaymaker would want. Excellent position for walking into town & Ventnor seafront & was conveniently placed for exploring the island. Comfortable beds provided a sound nights sleep. Pleasant & friendly owner. Overall, a quality holiday cottage that my family would definitely stay in again with no hesitation.

Peace and Tranquility in the Isle of Wight

LJ & Mrs S Plymouth
Review Submitted: May 13, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Our first visit to this wonderful island. What a gem, all our expectations were exceeded. There is something for everyone and all within reasonable travelling distance. The problem was deciding where to go and what to see. Undoubtedly somewhere to return in the future.

The cottage was exactly as described and as soon as we walked into the lounge were hit with the wow factor. This feels like a home from home and not just a holiday let.
Reading through the guest book shows how Debby has listened to reasonable suggestions and acted accordingly.

We were taking a short spring break with my brother and sister in law. The cottage is ideally suited to accomodate 2 couples (and even a couple of young children). The location gives stunning views and is within easy walking distance of local amenities. A bit more difficult on the way home as it's all uphill but not a big problem.

We had excellent meals at the Spyglass Inn and the Millbay in Ventnor along with others in Sandown and Shanklin.
Our lunch of sausage baguettes overlooking the Needles from the Old Battery will be long remembered. Shame it was so windy that day.

Dealing with Debby for the booking etc was easy and our deposit was promptly returned.

We have no hesitation to recommend this property
