Monsegur is a small, historic, bastide market town within the Aquitaine region. The last battle of the 100 Years War was fought nearby at Castillion la Bataille and is spectacularly re-enacted every August. It is a region full of history with strong links both to the English occupation in the middle ages, to the Route of St. Jacques de la Compostelle and the 2nd World War Resistance movement. The opportunities for wine tasting are limitless. The Entre-deux-Mers is the region between the 2 major rivers, the Dordogne and Garonne. It is a low lying, rolling countryside for easy cycling and an abundance of wildlife making birdwatching particularly interesting. The dedicated bicycle route (the old railway line) covers the 55 kms from nearby Sauveterre into Bordeaux. There are many pre-historic sites; Lascaux, Rouffingnac,Tersac etc. within easy reach to the east. To the west lies the highest sand dune in Europe, Pyla, and the Oyster beds of Cap Ferret. Bordeaux is a World Heritage site.
