Apartment and Surroundings: Our apartment is located in Alfama only a short distance from the Sao Miguel church, in the square that is known as “Largo da Palmeira”. The house has 4 apartments. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchenette (oven, refrigerator, cooker and washing machine) and has room for up to 4 people. Three of them have a living-room (with sofa bed), a bathroom and one bedroom (double bed). The other apartment has a living-room (with sofa bed), a bathroom and two bedrooms. The house was completely renovated in 2007, but preserving its original characteristics and its entrance patio.Nearby you can find little stores, cafés, restaurants and a pharmacy.

What to do: Our guests will receive a map of Alfama with all the important information to make their stay as interesting as possible. Alfama is one of the oldest parts of Lisbon, offering interesting architectural and cultural sites. Fado has its origins here and there are several restaurants serving typical food to the sound of live Fado. June and July are the months of the local festivities, when Alfama is decorated with all colours. In those months, small food and drink stands are set up everywhere, inviting the visitor to try the typical grilled sardines. June 13th is the day of St. Anthony, Lisbon’s patron Saint. On the eve of that day, there are processions and folkloric marches of Lisbon’s oldest quarters, including Alfama, in his honour.

Fans of more radical sports can enjoy a bicycle race through the narrow streets, that takes place each year in central Alfama.In the first half of December, Christmas concerts are organized in the churches of Sao Miguel in Alfama, “Igreja da Graça” and “Igreja do Menino de Deus” in Encosta do Castelo. But Lisbon has a lot more to offer!!

We agree with the April report . In fact this is what made us choose our appt but ground floor Compact , darkish for day light but internal lighting good ,very clean ,well decorated, very well equiped kitchen and bathroom ,patio bottom of high buildings but some sky but very welcome to use . In a good area to be with locals ,shops and restaurants . Recommended ones very good We were lucky to be there at festival time .
We were met on time to go to the appt in Alfarda but from airport the taxi fare is 7/8 euros not 15 We got caught in fixing the price at 15 euros ! Even though the airport tourist office said 18-60 Euros for a taxi voucher and advised 15 Euro if we took a taxi ourselves . The return taxi fare was the same . 7/8 euros Lisbon is good for a short break
Owner's Response: Taxi fares in Lisbon depend on the amount of luggage that you transport, the traffic conditions and of course the day/night time. So you can't expect exactly the same rate for the same route everytime.

Superb apartment in a lovely location

My wife and I stayed at this apartment recently and were not dissappointed. Everything is as described and the location is right in the middle of a lovely neighbourhood. There's certainly lots to see in the area and you are within walking distance to most of the major attractions.

Both Isabella and Astrid were very helpful. They allowed us to leave our luggage for a few more hours as our flight was not later in the afternoon which was very much appreciated.

All in all this a lovely place to be based for exploring the wonderful things Lisbon has to offer.

First floor apartment in Alfama

We had a fantastic week in the Alfama apartment. It is the perfect base for a first visit to Lisbon. The welcome and facilities were great. There is plenty of info in the apartment about Lisbon. The city has everything - culture, architecture, wonderful food and drink and a laid back feel. People live outdoors and are friendly and helpful.
The apartment is very small but this is just in keeping with the area. It has everything you need. The area around the accommodation is an absolute maze and you will get lost a few times. It is well worth the climb up to the top of the hill for fantastic views over the city. If you can't manage all the steps there is a longer way round the sloped road. Public transport is easy to get the hang of and cheap. Make sure you go on the tram for the fun of it. The old town and main shopping area are within walking distance. We particularly enjoyed a day in Belem.
The only thing I would say about this apartment and about Alfama in general is that it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. If, however, you're just unfit you will find a week here is a good workout.

Perfect small apartment

The apartment was clean, well-equipped and pleasant.
Isa and Astrid responded quickly to our e-mails during the booking stage, and once we arrived in Alfama we were met and taken to the apartment. There was even a bottle of wine waiting for us! The area is a good base for exploring Lisbon and the rare evenings when we stayed in were enlivened by the grey parrot next door who has a huge repetoire of different whistles! The cooking equipment is comprehensive and in a good condition, and the shower was fine, once we mastered the controls!
We would certainly recommend the apartment, and the owners, and would happily stay there again!

Great Sightseeing Base

We stayed at the apartment in late April 2009 and were blessed not only with great weather but a great apartment. Alfama is very atmospheric at any time of the day and staying here beats staying in a sanitised hotel hands down!

Isabel met us on arrival and took us to the apartment (you'd never find it through the warren of streets!). The apartment was all that it was stated to be and was well sited for public transport. It was spotlessly clean and what was delightful was that basic items like salt, pepper, oil dish washing liquid etc were provided - a boon for us self-caterers!

If there has to be a word of caution it has to be the bedroom which is very 'cosy' - it has a slanted recess (outside stairs going up) and getting out of bed in a hurry at night can cause serious injury!

Isabel was extremely helpful and I would have no hesitation in recommending this little gem to anyone who would rather 'do' by themselves.
