Wilderness lies 15km east of George, on the Garden Route between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reseve. It is renowned for its vast stretches of beach, tranquility and the absence of windswept wetlands, wild and stormy seas. Wilderness overlooks not only the sea, but also the placid lagoon, the Serpentine, which meanders between the Touws River, Island Lake, Langvlei and Rondevlei. Encompassed within the boundaries of Wilderness one finds the 2500ha Wilderness National Park. Five rivers and five lakes, two estuaries and 18 km of Southern Cape coastline are protected within the Park.This rare and sensitive eco-systym is home to a wealth of water birds.
