Crying out for authenticity? Then this is for you.... a tastefully restored and cosy home in an idyllic village. Hidden from the tourist market but still within 1 hour of airport, sea and mountains. Ideal for couples and families. Maison Caramany is a beautifully renovated and furnished house with two sun terraces located in the small and idyllic hilltop village of Caramany (pop 150). River swimming, the Med, Cathar castles, wine touring and Perpignan airport are all less than 1hr away. Maison Caramany is ideal for those looking to relax and unwind, but excellently located as a base for activities in area.

How to get there: Perpignan Airport is the most convenient airport to fly to. Transfer time from this airport to Maison Caramany is 30-40 mins. Perpignan Airport is well served by budget airlines. Ryanair operates daily flights all year round from London Stansted. BmiBaby fly daily all year round from Manchester. Flybe operates daily flights during the summer season only from Birmingham and Southampton. Air France fly daily from Paris Only. Distances: River swimming, 3km. Ille sur Tet town (supermarkets, banks, cafes, internet and restaurants), 12km. Perpignan (shopping, nightlife, restaurants), 30km. Queribus castle, 25km. Coast/Beach A 45 mins drive takes you to the outstanding seaside town of Collioure. A small town full of charm and character, it has good swimming and dining possibilities.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Booking procedure:
    A 25% deposit of the total rental fee is required to secure a booking. We can only hold your dates for 5 days after you decide to book.
    The balance is required 8 weeks before your holiday plus a damage deposit. This is £100 plus £50 for each additional week. Provided everything is OK, this will be returned to you after your stay.

    Changeover day:
    The changeover day is Sunday from June to August. Saturday for the rest of the year but this is flexible during the quieter months.

  • There is a sofa bed in the lounge that opens up very quickly into a large and comfortable double bed. The lounge offers privacy at night making the sofa bed suitable for adults as well children.

Notes: Smoking is not permitted inside the house. Pets are allowed for an extra £75 per week. Games provided for children. There is a lounge area in the big bedroom with its own TV, DVD player and library. It gives the option of children watching a film while adults socialise in lounge, for example. The entire house has been insulated, making it cool in the summer and snug in the winter.

Airport transfers: A taxi will set you back approximately €100-120 to get from Perpignan to Caramany. Not being particularly keen to pay these prices, I've asked friend and fellow Caramagnol, Jean-Francois to do transfers between Perpignan and Caramany for those who don't feel like getting behind the wheel for their holiday. He charges €50 each way for the service which you pay directly to him. This service is only suitable for 3 or, at a push, 4 people but remember to go easy on the luggage. He drives a newish Renault Megane.

Ski: It takes approx 75 mins to drive to the nearest ski resort, making Maison Caramany an ideal winter break sprinkled with a few days of skiing here and there.
