Our semi-detached gite can accommodate 2 adults and a baby/small child and is part of the main house which is a typical Charentais style farmhouse in the quiet village of Bagnizeau, population about 200. The gite opens into the sunny courtyard at the front of the house, great for al fresco dining, and there is a back garden with a lawn, shaded patio area and 4.6m diameter above ground pool. The gite has full central heating for those cooler months. In the village there is an 11th century church and a park with a boules pitch, table tennis table and tennis court, we have the necessary equipment you can borrow if you wish to play. There are bikes available for guests' use and we are keen to encourage this by providing local maps and suggested routes through the countryside which is ideal for cycling or walking. If you wish to bring your own bikes we have ample secure storage for them. Alternatively let us know if you are coming to house hunt and we will do what we can to help you.

Second only to the Cote d'Azur the Charente Maritime and Charente are the sunniest departments in France. In summer there are many fields of beautiful sunflowers, lavender and of course grape vines as this is the heart of the cognac and pineau producing area. The town of Cognac itself is only 25 minutes away and there you will find many of the big cognac houses such as Hennessey and Martell where you can have guided tours to learn how cognac is made. The historic town of Saintes, about 30 minutes drive, is well worth visiting with its impressive Roman amphitheatre, pedestrianised shopping streets and great Sunday morning food market. Angouleme is about 40 minutes away and a stroll round the ramparts gives spectacular views of the surrounding area. About an hour away a visit to La Rochelle is a must with its great beach, huge marina, many seafood restaurants and some very chic shops. Nearer to home there are a couple of lakes - great for picnics, swimming and fishing

Some DVD's, books and games are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped and has plenty of cupboard space, a combination microwave/oven/grill, kettle, toaster, iron & ironing board. Use of washing machine available. Wi-Fi internet access available. The gite is fully centrally heated making it ideal for winter lets Outside - pool and outside facilities shared with owner only. Please bring your own beach towels. Owner on site all year round.

Local facilities: The country town of Matha is less than 2km from Bagnizeau and here you will find a range of small shops, banks, estate agents, hairdressers, 4 supermarkets, 2 restaurants and small market hall. A bigger outdoor street market takes place here on the 1st Friday of each month. 15 minutes away is the lovely town of St. Jean d'Angely with its quaint town centre and ancient twin towered abbey. There is a very good market here on Wednesday and Saturday mornings; St. Jean has an impressive indoor swimming/leisure complex next to the park and boating lake, and some of the bigger retail stores on the outskirts of town. Also 15 minutes away is the market town of Aulnay with its picturesque town centre where you can enjoy al fresco refreshments and the regular Sunday morning market.

Other Activities: Nearest golf course is Cognac, 25 minutes drive; lake at Angouleme for sailing & canoing.

The gite is well presented and comfortable, in a quiet and rural location - all as described. The on-site owners are friendly and helpful. There are a number of interesting places to visit nearby and tours around some of the many cognac producers are a must! A good area for cycling.

This is a lovely gite, modern, bright and spotless. It's like the photos and very comfortable. I stayed there for 2mths house hunting and was very happy with the gite. The owners Lynn and Derek are very helpful, friendly and on hand should any problems arise. They are both knowledgeable about the area and are happy to advise. The surrounding country side is very scenic with lots of cycle tracks and sites to visit, but a car is essential.
