Villa Orchid review Easter 2009

We were the first guests to stay at Villa Orchid and really did not want to come home! Richard and Jo-Anne have done a fabulous job in making this a lovely, spacious, clean and airy villa with a high level of equipment. All the furnishings are of high quality with beautiful decor throughout and it felt like being in someone's much-loved home rather than a holiday villa.
The location is great - 10 mins from airport and just 5 mins drive to the beautiful Miami beach and Oistins (good supermarket and of course the Friday night fish fry!) - and in a very quiet up-market residential area. We are regular visitors to Barbados and prefer the south coast and this villa is well located to get anywhere on the island.
The house had everything we needed and certainly exceeded our expectations. As it is new we knew that the rear garden was not yet lawned, but in any case we loved just sitting on the verandah watching the world go by and listening to the tree frogs in the evening.
Platinum Heights still has some small scale construction but was not at all intrusive and all the neighbouring homes are complete. Before coming, our main concern was the villa's proximity to the flight path. However, there was very little in the way of noise nuisance and the plane spotting made our 10-year old son's holiday!
When in the house we spent all our time outside on the verandah as it is always in the shade and benefits from a good breeze on this part of the island. We also had no evidence of mosquitoes, which has been a problem in other places on the island.
We spent most days at Miami beach, which is a beautiful location with shady areas, deck chair hire, life guard, parking right next to the beach and waves just the right size to keep our three children (aged 7-12) amused for hours. There is also a neighbouring sheltered lagoon suitable for younger families.
Our favourite places are Tides restaurant (for an upmarket meal), Cafe Sol and Carib Beach Bar (for evening drinks and food), The Round House in Bathsheba (unbeatable location for lunch) and El Tigre catamaran cruise (look for 15% discount voucher in the Barbados in a Nutshell guide). Our favourite beaches are Miami beach and Rockley beach, although Bottom Bay is probably the most beautiful. Take in North Point if you have the chance.
All in all a highly recommended property and we will definitely be returning. Thank you Richard and Jo-Anne for a fabulous place to spend our family holiday.
